Cucumber Gose Eisbock.
Zehn Jahre Brauwahnsinn in Thüngfeld liegen hinter uns und es waren zehn ereignisreiche, wilde, verrückte, bier- und glorreiche Jahre. Unzählige abgefahrene Kreationen haben das Sudhaus verlassen, wir haben Brauer*innen auf der ganzen Welt kennengelernt und die Grenzen des Machbaren mehr als einmal gesprengt. Wir begrüßen das neue Jahrzehnt der Braumanufaktur Hertl daher mit einem Bier, das dem Schabernack der letzten Jahre die Krone aufsetzt.
Unser Jubiläumssud ist ein kräftiger Eisbock, den wir aus einem unserer verrücktesten Biere gebraut haben. Dürfen wir vorstellen: Pickle David, der erste Gurken Gose Eisbock der Welt!
Um sich vor einem unangenehmen Termin zu drücken, kann man sich schon mal in eine Gurke verwandeln. Ich wähle die Gurkenform allerdings eher dann, wenn es etwas zu feiern gibt. Und um an einer Fete teilzunehmen, braucht man als eine Essiggurke mit ansteckender Lache und dem Gesicht eines gut gelaunten Braumeisters zum Glück auch kein Exoskelett aus Rattenbeinen.

Bottled 330ml. -from Die Bierothek Bamberg, shared with Hrabren & Marko. Amber coloured, small off-white head, dominant cucumber aroma. Alcohol, caramel, noticable cucumber and discreet dill with again cucumber in the finish. Interesting but 9.75€ for the bottle is too much.

0.33l bottle, thanks Ogi for sharing with Hrabren and me! Amberish-brownish body, no head. Huge cucumber aroma, some toothrot wild notes, some maltiness, sharp and sour, some light oxidized maltiness, minerally. Tart toothrot wildness and pickle taste, sour, lightly salty... the concept is ridiculously fun, especially for a German MALZGETRÄNK (fuck Reinheitsgebot), but the result is garbage I'm afraid to say.

0.33 l bottle thanks to Ogi, shared with Marko and him. Unclear amber, small off-white head. Aroma is a weird combination of cucumber, caramel, spice, black pepper, spice. A touch of cardboard and ripe vegetable. Hint of brandy. Quite bizarre combo of pickles and dried fruit. Smooth, oily, slick, sweet also moderate sourness.

330ml bottle @ Belgian Beer Geeks Autumn Gathering 2025. Thanks Tim for this unique rarity! Not the best gherkin Eisbock I've had. Pours a clear reddish colour. Distinct aroma of gherkin skin, flavour profile brings a distant blackcurranty fruitiness, dill, gherkin juice.. the unexpected fruitiness kind of makes it more palatable as you journey through, but it's still a struggle.

Bottle shared at BBGG. Clear dark amber. Smells like farts. Dill, coriander, sugary, caramel, tons of weird herbs, rotten pickles. Very sweet, light salty. Full bodied. Disgusting.

18/X/25 - 33cl bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared @ BBGG Fall ‘25 (home), BB: 1/I/45 (probably bottled 1/I/25 or thereabout) (2025-1032)
Clear red to amber beer, no head. Aroma: very strong picked gherkin smell, super intense, some dill, sweet impression, alcohol, vinegar touch, very weird, but interesting all right! MF: soft carbon, medium body. Taste: very sweet and sugary, what? How is this not super sour? Lots of dill and caramel malts. Aftertaste: sugary and sweet, more dill, gherkins all right, soft acidity, weird and funky, this is one strange beer. And I’m a lover of cucumber beers, but this is a whole other level.

Cuivre assez Claire, col fin blanc-cassé.
Arôme sur un bouquet allant de suite sur des effluves de jus de cornichons – la coriandre passe pour trop présente ou alors ne rendant pas service à la bière, qui est presque un distillat – avec une touche maltée qui sert de base pour pousser le tout à 10% - cela se ressent aussi un peu en bouche.
Palais garde une approche sur base de cornichons mais où tout cela devient vite très brouillon – effet rappellent du vieux produits industriels – plastic avec un caractère de cornichon qui n’est pas sans déplaire mais où la base reste confuse, et il me semble que l’apport de coriandre ne soit pas optimal. Malgré ses 10%, le tout reste sur une sensation de ‘watery’ avec un fini sur l’aneth et une douceur latente.
