Tart cherry and rich, viscous dark fruit. Cocoa and pepper have subsided with the age, but cinnamon remains faintly. On tap at Ale Arsenal - was very happy to get to try one more Cascade beer and very sad that they are no longer around. What a great brewery and always a fun stop in Portland!

500ml corked bottle, 2017 vintage. Vinous red wine aroma with notes of chocolate, cinnamon, dates, cayenne, oak and bourbon. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head that has no retention and no lacing. Starts with dates, cayenne, chocolate and oak flavors as well as having a rich, full body and tart mouthfeel. Finishes smooth and quite tart with red wine, bourbon and cinnamon flavors. Quite good still.

Bottle, 0.50l, shared with Simona & David. Aroma of cocoa, leather, pepper, wood and funky red wine. Pours almost black color with thin quickly diminishing tan-like head. Taste starts with roasted malt, chocolate and mild cinnamon, following is tart funky vinous, red fruity and peppery, mouthfeel is smooth with well hidden ABV and warming finish. Full body, oily texture and soft carbonation in palate. Not a dangerous plague…

Draft. Black bere with a tan head. Light sour aroma. Cinnamon and sour flavor with light acetic notes and light chocolate. Medium bodied. Sourness and fruitiness linger with light acetic notes, light bourbon, and light chocolate.

I am sure this is a great beer but I think I will struggle to drink it. 2 sips in and both sips have given me shivers.

17 September 2022. At Tapster Wicker, Chicago. Shared with the lovely Anke!
Hazy blackish, thin, tan head. Aroma of ripe brambleberry, blue plum, cinnamon, blueberry cookie, black pepper, cocoa bean, vague Coca-Cola. Taste has sweet-sour plum, brambleberry and unripe peach; dark-chocolatey malt body carrying notes of vinegar, lactic acid and spicy cinnamon. Tart, red-fruity finish, somewhat peppery-hoppy, spicy, medicinal; lingering sour berries and warming herbal liqueur-like alcohol. Medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Very original and complex; I daresay I've never tasted anything like this.

City Tap, 7/14/22. Deep hazelnut-mahogany, possibly clear. Small, dark beige-to-light-tan head shoes moderately low retention. Dainty cinnamon and cacao mix with acetic acid. If this is 5 years old it was an absolute disgusting drain pour when fresh (but hopefully they didn't release it fresh). Not really getting much enjoyment here. Big acetic, moderate lactic and cocoa don't really do it for me. Oof. So much God damned cinnamon. Almost like taking the cinnamon challenge but not quite. Cocoa powder and (not sharp at least) acetic acid with a very, very thin body for its size. Not much in the way of redeeming qualities though at least it's not boozey by this point. Yuck. Couldn't finish an 8 ounce glass (couldn't finish 3 ounces).
Lovely stuff. Light spice, fruity, touch of booze not hint of the strength.

On tap at Cascade, pours black with a medium tan head. Aroma is full of cocoa powder upfront, followed by cinnamon, a light dusting of cayenne and oak wine notes. Flavour is complex and integrated, with bourbon and wine upfront, accentuated by loads of cinnamon and cocoa powder. Still primarily a sour ale, but the chocolate and cinnamon add a wonderful element to it. Excellent.
