Rhubarb has been so ubiquitous for so long in the low countries that you would forget it originates from the Asian steppes. Delicious in a scrumptious pie or compote, we think it pairs nicely with our lambic. The sweet and sour of the red stems, grown organically by ourselves, are chopped up unevenly and added as such to the lambic of at least one year old. Together they ferment on casks for about four more months, resulting in a sweet sour beer containing roughly 300 grams of rhubarb per liter of beer. A lovely trip down memory lane having rhubarb pie with grandma, straight in your glass.

Süffiger, mild säuerlicher Beginn, moderat nach Rhabarber. Spritzig, süß-säuerlicher Mittelteil, wenig würzig, trocken, ok. 10/10/9/9/9/9

750mL bottle at the International Geuze & Kriek festival. Pours murky yellow with a white head. Not much on the nose. Flavour has some oak, a bit of musty funk. Not really any rhubarb detectable.

750mL bottle at International Geuze & Kriek Festival 2025, pours a hazy blonde with a small white head. Aroma has soft rhubarb upfront, gentle earthiness, and a touch of leathery funk. Flavour has a nice rhubarb character upfront, with gentle tartness, and gentle leathery funk. Gently tart, with moderate rhubarb on the finish. Good but nothing special.

15 June 2024. Tasting with Tim & Anke; many thanks to the former for hosting & sharing the bottle!
2021 vintage. Clear golden, very thin, white head. Aroma of white grape, plum, hay, rhubarb, sourdough, sweat. Taste has sour plum, grape & gooseberry, funky hay, soft lactic acid, wrapped in a sourdough-malty body. Tart finish of soft grape tannins, yellow fruits and earthy rhubarb. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. Easy-going and refreshing, but lacking some real depth.

15/VI/24 - 37.5 bottle from Geers (Oostakker), shared with Anke and Nathan @ home, BB: 15/XI/41 (2024-397)
Clear yellow beer, small creamy white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: very funky, earthy, lots of brett, not smelling the rhubarb. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: good acidity, funky, a little bitter, lots of brett, nice. Aftertaste: dry, sourish, funky, nice, a bit earthy, still not getting any rhubarb though, which is a shame. Tilquin and Cantillon have done a way better job at making rhubarb lambic, even small first time producers like Vermeersch and Boerenerf had a much better first take on this new lambic style.

Bottle 37.5cl. corked & caged @home poured into a teku glass. At first sparkling and pale golden colour within seconds becoming apricot coloured misty, small quickly dissipating fizzy white head, no lacing. Aroma rhubarb, gooseberries, unripe apricot, apricot jam, star fruit, bit wood. Soft taste, medium light sweet and medium sour, rhubarb, gooseberries, white grapes, apricot, woody notes. Medium body, watery texture, soft carbonation, smooth fruity sweet and sour aftertaste, lacks a certain kick and some body, depth and refinement, easy to drink, lingering woody notes, very refreshing, very promising, good.
