Shared this with my wife over the weekend. Lovely heavy pohjala sipper, this is not that far away from an imperial stout considering it's a gruit, though there are some herbal and especially pohjala's signature forest flavours, although lots here is dark malts and barrel notes. Excellent beer, not quite as exceptional as some of the other cellar series beers.

330mL bottle from Beergeek Bar. Pours black with no head. Tons of whiskey barrels up front on the nose with some herbal notes and toasted nuts. Flavour has plenty of strong whiskey and vermouth barrels, lots of wood, herbs, toasted nuts, dark roasted malts; surprisingly low on the booziness. I haven't had many gruits at the time of tasting this, but if most are like this then it's an excellent style.

The twentieth one of 22 beers for our 12th wedding anniversary. Naira's.
Bottle 0.33l, two and half years aged. Cloudy, copper colored. AROMA- flowery and herbal, red fruit - plum, strawberry, other berries, cherry; pleasant alcohol. FLAVOR- thick, moderately sweet, lightly bitter, red fruit again, vermouth, my father's sour cherry liquor, honey. Full, syrupy body.
Great!

Bottle @ home. Almost clear, deep ruby red body with practically no head. Strong and pleasant aroma of dark malt, dry fruit, herbs, port and warming alcohol. Taste is rich and sweet with sweet, dark malt, some smooth toffee, dry fruit, vinous port, cold herbs, warming but not boozy alcohol and a touch of licorice. Balanced body and long lasting aftertaste. Sweet, but I believe that’s what it takes to camouflages this much alcohol and make such a complex and nice beer. Wonderful.

Sweetish, herbal, a bit bitter. Maybe a tad bit medicinal, nice though.

Sample, thanks oh6gdx! Hazy mahogany colour, small head. Oaky nose with herbs and caramel. Sweet with full body and well rounded mouthfeel. Caramel and creamy herbs, lots of oaky whisky. Oaky peppery finish.

Bottle from Kisjes, Meppel. Gruit and Vermouth, yet spiced within the limits. Strong and sweet with whiskey, dark malts, caramel, chocolate and spicy notes. Some alcohol in the long sweet finish, full bodied with some stickiness. The world needs more BA Imperial Gruits.

Wax capped bottle from House of Trembling Madness. Not used to these wax caps - it took me 10 minutes to open the darn thing. Pours dark brown with a brief tanned fizz - a bit cola like. Aroma of the whisky and vermouth come through clearly, some oak, boozed mixed fruit, something floral - maybe the herbs? Taste is certainly boozy, warming, sweet dark malts, touch of liquorice and toffee, something lightly herbal. Full bodied, sticky but far from overbearing with a nice carbonation tingle. This is my first gruit style beer but it showcases the spirits more than the herbs. Nice strong beer through.
