Means “to shine or glow” in German. Deep golden in color with a white frothy head, this lightly smoked lager expresses aromas of cherrywood and light mesquite with a gently spicy and floral hop character. The body is malty and full, and the finish is dry.

Clear straw body, thick cream head. LIght cerealy, grainy nose with subtle smoke. Body nutty, cerealy, and crisp, with a subdued but deeply layered smokiness that complements, not overshadows, the grainy base. Nice.

16oz can pours a clear, dark gold with some white head that faded quick. Nose has malt and grain, some light smoke and sausage, a little earthy, some nuttiness. Flavor has a very clear grain character and a very clear woody/smoked character with some honey layered over. Finishes dry. A bit over simple but well executed.

Canned 10/11/21, drunk 5/11/22. Clear, rich, maize-brass-golden with a well-retained, off-white head atop. Soft smoke with baked bread, dough, honey and rich mineral give a very authentic rauch impression. No alcohol or flaw and the smoke seems in-line with the lower gravity of the beer. About as much as Schlenkerla's helles. Soft, malty, richly honeyed and with big white dough character. Peppery smoke with light iodine in the background makes me think more of Scotland than Bamberg. It's just a shade sweet and ever-so-slightly flabby on the finish. Need just a little more dryness/crispness, though it's a big nitpick. Clean, malty, with balanced smokiness.

Always grab unrated schilling lagers. Deep gold with not the biggest of heads. Nose is smoked wood and sweet perfume. Taste of florals, hay, cereal, smoke wood, peppery. Not hammy at all which I enjoy. Lingering finish.

Can from Covenhoven: pours gold with a white head. Aroma is mellow smoke and grain. Taste is fairly smoky, a little sweet, low hops. Good.
