This weighty beer is a choose-your-own-adventure experience. Freshly plugged, this beer is a gooey 10% hop gusher to bring your holiday retreat to its knees, but time allows this brew to round and settle into an ever maltier bomb of balance.

Sample at the Blarney Wine tasting on 03/16/2013 (as "Wild America"): The beer is a hazy copper color with a medium light beige head that recedes steadily. Stringy lacing on the glass. Aroma of toffee, citrus and hops. Full-bodied with flavors of bready malt, grapefruit and hops. The finish is hoppy up front with a pine and citrus aftertaste. Pretty good overall.

Bottle. Pours a clear deep amber with a tan head that dissipates to the edges and barely remains. Aroma is interesting with a musty sweet grain note with with a bitter hop note that has a bit of pine. Flavor is a bit sweeter up front with a bit of caramel and sweet grains but has a decent amount of pine hops in the finish. Not really for me.

22oz bottle pours a hazy, burnt orange with some fizzy white head. Nose is overly boozy, whiskey, saltines. Flavor is like the liquid that surrounds an oyster, salty and a little savory, caramel. Full bodied doesn’t really describe the heavy mouthfeel. Hard to drink.

Bottle thanks to secret Santa. Pours dark caramel. Tan head. Nose and taste of caramel, toffee, date pits, barley and candi sugar. Taste has a lot of dry fig and date pits with malted barley as the body. Very dry pit finish. Medium body.

Big thanks to HOPSHUNTER for sharing this barleywine I haven’t even heard of, very cool. The bomber pours brilliant deep dark copper with off white head. The aroma has some apple and dark fruity esters followed by earthiness, pine and spicy hops. The taste is bold with rich pine hops that roll toward earthy hops and spicy hops. To midway and into the finish additional notes of malts and roasted malts join in and help take this into the after taste. Solid American Style Barleywine.
