355 ml can. Murky black with a small creamy head. Brandy, overripe fruits, dried fruits such as dates and sultanas, bourbon, chocolate, booze, rum. Boozy sweetness, some dry bitterness. Full bodied, oily texture, soft carbonated, dry bittersweet boozy finish. Not that great, misses complexity and flavour.

10.25% - Black with thin head. Aroma has nice roasted coffee. Pleasant but not especially punchy. Flavour of coffee and vanilla. Disappointingly bland considering the strength and description. Misses woody complexity and bitterness. It's good but far from great.

12 fl.oz. can. (10.25 ABV) A almost black beer with a tan head. Aroma of bourbon vanilla, mid sweet dark malt, chocolate. Taste of sweet woody bourbon, oak, chocolate, caramel, full body.

Expensive 12oz can (the 10.25% ABV version) pours with a deep dark colored body that supports a thin tan head. The aroma is full of barrel booze notes with thin snippets of chocolate and vanilla out at the periphery of the aroma cloud. The taste delivers similar notes with boozy bourbon taking a firm hold on the experience. To midway a thin mesa of chocolate is noticed as a murmuring of soft supple vanilla creates distance echoes of flavor. At times it seems a little too barrel forward but then another sip seems to come across slick with sugary malts. Solid sipper.

Bottle. A- Roasty, coffee, cocoa. A- Black color, black liquid, light brown head. T- Coffee, roasty. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, balanced finish. O- To my knowledge this was only sold in Texas. Been holding on to it for 3 years now and I do imagine the coffee would be better fresh but it drank nicely. Coffee is not bitter nor earthy but it is still the dominate flavor. Well rounded. Has a familiar Clown Shoes RIS flavor.

Once Upon a Time in the Far East came to me from a local HEB, purchased a couple of months ago. Clown Shoes is usually an adventure so let’s give it a try. I open the bomber and pour into my Buffalo Bayou snifter. It delivers black as Hades with a velvety beige head. The scent is mighty fine, chocolate, strawberry jam and bread. A drink, jeez, really good, dark baking chocolate, caramel, dark fruit, toast. I find a hint of coffee perhaps. My bottle says 12% abv, it does not rear its head. Smooth and appropriately bitter.
