Bottle sample at a tasting at the Beer & Beyond shop. Thanks troubles. Hazy amber. Pleasant aroma of smoked malt, kinda meaty, and some caramel. Sweetish flavor, malty, caramelly, with light toastiness and some smoked sausage. Medium-bodied.

Bottle, 5.4%. Malty aroma, slightly smoked. Seemingly cloudy dark brown colour. Stable off-white head. The flavour is smoked, of course. Has a dryish and salty smoke note. OK malty base. Good mouthfeel.

Bottle. Pours cloudy copperbrown with airy off-white head. Dark aroma pf malt and caramel with buttery notes. Sweetish, malty aroma with fruity and caramel touches and roasty notes. Sweetish aftertaste. Decent but much more of a Dunkelweizen than a Smoked.

Good, nice smoky aroma and taste, without being overpowering. Smoke is a nice accent, not the preeminent flavor. Pours dark brown with thick beige head. Aroma is peat, oak barrel, burnt toast. Taste is same with mellow bitterness on the palate. Not the classic Bamberg variety, but a good smoked beer.

Served in the Castle Hotel Burg Veldenstein, Neuhaus Pegnitz, Franconia which acts as a tap house for the Veldenstein/Kaiser Brau range (Nov ’11). Served in a stone/porcalain tankard so difficult to fully appreciate the colour but appeared a mid copper brown, not too dark, not as dark as other Rauchbiers I’ve had. Lightly smoked rauch, nowhere near as intense as others. Other flavours peeping through past the smoking were oaky/wood and toffee. A little grainy on the palate.

Bottled, thanks oh6gdx! Hazy nut brown, small creamy head. Mild salami smoke aroma. Mid sweet with medium body and soft mouthfeel. Smoked meat and licorice, mixed with sugar and dough. Fairly low bitterness. Nice mid-intensity rauchbier, on the sweeter side.
