Bottle. Dark reddish brown with a thin white head. Nicely smoked aroma, flavour is roasted malt with a nice smokey background. Finish is smokey and lightly bitter.

Nice amber coloured, small off-white head, pleasant smoked nose. Mild roasted and very pleasant smoked with light panceta notes. Slight sourish and dry finish. All in all nice beer.

Plastic smoked cheese nose, more of the same in the taste, backed with a crappy bitterish-acidic hopiness. Sorta dull. A nice smoked actually but ruined by the sourness. Ah well.

Swing top bottle. Light smoked meat and sour milk malt aroma. Medium brown with small head. Nice smoked meat and malt flavor with a long lasting aftertaste. Tasty and nicely drinkable.

Bottle. Frothy off-white good mostly lasting head. Amber colour. Very smoked bacon aroma. Malty smoked flavor. Average finish. Oily palate. Nice but not my style.

(Bottle on 2009-02-07) Dark brown and cloudy. Medium sized and quite quickly disappearing white head. Malts and light smokiness in aroma. Full bodied palate with medium carbonation. Malts, fresh malts, caramell, smoke and hint of dark chocoate in taste. Smoke and bitterness in aftertaste.

previously tested on German BTO 11/2006: Dieses Veldensteiner Rauchbier habe ich in einem Getränkemarkt im Allgäu gefunden. Es ist weder auf der Veldensteiner Homepage, noch bei Ratebeer oder sonstwo zu finden. Zu neu? Hübsche Flasche, auf dem Etikette sieht man zwei Männer, die sich mit zwei vollen Biergläsern zuprosten, sitzend vor einem offenen Kamin, in dem ein Feuer lodert. Sieht gemütlich aus, an so einen Ort wünscht man sich an einem kalten, verregneten Herbstabend. Zum Bier: Naturtrüb, sehr dunkel, stabile Krone. Geruch leicht nach Rauch. Im Antrunk ist Röstmalz zu schmecken, auch im Mittelteil. Zur Mitte hin tritt ein Rauchgeschmack ein, stets im Hintergrund, aber doch immer präsent. Obwohl der Rauchgeschmack im Hintergrund ist, erschwert er das Herausschmecken von Malz und Hopfen. Der Abgang ist vergleichsweise lang und bringt eine gewisse Herbe zu Tage - hier also hat sich der Hopfen versteckt. Insgesamt schmeckt es gut, würde ich wieder kaufen.

50cl bottle. Pours brownish dark with a light brownish head. Aroma is lightly smokey and caramel. Taste is filled with smokiness and malt, leaving a tingly feeling on the tongue and palate. Lightly hoppy, aftertaste is light, smokey and roasted. I was really impressed by the body of this beer. While I am not a huge fan of the strong rauch style, this beer had a lot of postive points to it.

Bottled. Hazy amber colour, fluffy big off-white head. Aroma is smoked wood, saltwater along with some berries and sweet malts. Flavour is leather, smoked notes as well as some slight sweet malts and yeast. Very pleasant.

Wässriger Antrunk. Das dies ein Rauchbier ist, lässt sich hier nur erahnen, auch im Mittelteil ist dies nur wage zu erkennen, hier baut sich das Aroma auf, ihm geht aber die Luft aus, bevor es so richtig loslegen kann. Zusätzlich etwas herb und durchaus würzig, fast vollmundig. Zum Abgang hin nimmt das Raucharoma wieder etwas ab, daneben bleibt die Herbe noch etwas länger bestehen.
