330ml bottle. Black-brown colour, foamy biege head and aroma of floral hoppy grapefruit. Taste is dark malt, spicy tones balanced with sublime resiny hop bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, dry lingering bitter finish. Very drinkable.

Bottled. Deep murky reddish brown with a foamy beigeish brown head. Aroma is sweet malts, some fruits, liquorice and quite floral as well. Flavour is mild coffeeish toasted notes along with fruits, liquorice, some resin and mild wooden notes. Hides the alcohol very well. Pleasant as most of the Kernels beers.

33 cl bottle @ home (label says just Black, not Double Black, but also 9.8% - BB 14/08/14). Color is clear, very dark brown, not quite black. Beige head with some retention. Aroma’s: strong resin/citrus, herbal, salmiak, acidic, some roasted malt. Flavor: drop/licorice, herbal, medium bitter with a malty backbone. Prickly alcohol feel, medium body. Finishes with roast and resin, but not overly bitter.

Bottle pours dark amber with mahogany hues and full fluffy tan head. The aroma offers up a nice nearly bold level of pine and grapefruit like hops with some earthy dank hops and spicy hops that aren’t far behind. If there’s roastiness in the aroma I’m really not getting any. The taste has firm chewy yummy dank earthy to spicy hops to start that just seem to hit the spot. Those notes are followed by some grapefruit like citrus hops and a good deal of resiny bitter pine hops. What roasted malts are here are well off in the background and seem to leave the big bold drool inducing hoppiness alone to run amuck in the flavor playing field. I dig it. Yes, my very first Kernel beer and I am “in”, all in baby! Well done.
