Bottle at ChrisO’s Pre-GBBF Shindig 2011. Pours hazy, red-brown with a huge, off-white head. Messy malts, subtle fruits, faint roast and plastic in the nose. Medium sweet flavor, modest roast. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Bit of ripe fruits and some dark malts to finish. Alright.

Cloudy dark brown beer. Made with licorice. Dry palate. Dry unsweet licorice with a repressed tangy fruitiness. Dry licorice - malt finish. Pleasant tasting beer but over dry.

bottle from Village de la Bière Strasbourg. Deep brown colour, cloudy, large beige head, quickly diminishing. Lots of roasted alts, shy hints of caramel, dry palate. There is a flavour present that probably comes from the licorice roots, I thought it rather "green" and herbal, nettle-like flavour. Highly unusual but very interesting.

Pours all right, very dark, minimal head, carbonation showing through the glass. Aroma is thin barley, some sweet raisin, caramel, sugar. Flavour is incredibly fruity, plenty of cherries and chocolate, almost antiseptic dessert-like flavour to it. Very sweet, probably too much, needs further refinement.

2011-11-29, bottle at Brewberry, Paris, 6-3-6-3-12=30
Black color; huge frothy head (too much carbonation). The aroma is quite yeasty, and with some roasted malt. Roasted malt flavor, quite dry mouthfeel, with a background of liquorice, not too strong; correct bitterness; but in these conditions the yeast appears too much. Somebody else may like it...
2011-09-04, draught at Moeder Lambic, Fontainas, 6-3-6-3-12=30
Dirty dark brown color (cloudy) with small head. Some aroma of roasted malt and cheese. Round mouthfeel; caramel and chocolate flavor; luckily the liquorice is very subdued, actually it blends well in this beer; the carbonation is too low; the bitterness is low as well, and there is some residual sugar. Average,

Bottled. A nut-brown beer with an off-white head. The aroma has notes of malt, caramel, and a bit of nuts. The flavor is sweet with notes of nuts, malt, and caramel, as well as light notes of licorice leading to a dry nutty finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.
