Golden Bock

Glissade is a remarkably mellow take on the traditional spring bock. With restrained sweetness, we emphasize subtle malt flavor balanced against delicate aromas of spicy and floral European hops. This complex balance helps Glissade slide across the palate, bracing us against the last cold nights of winter, while its bright golden color turns our thoughts toward spring.

Draft from the draught house in Austin. Poured a pale yellow with minor head. Aroma was somewhat malty but the taste was just a bit too weak for me.

Smooth mild beginning. Easy to drink, a bit boozy in the end. Grain there, alcohol and a bit of disinfection spray. Neutral finish with a slightly sweetish back.

Bottle. Deep golden color. Malt, plums and butterscotch in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with floral hops, plums and pineapple. Blackcurrant. Some alcohol in the aftertaste.

Bottles in 2009 and 2010. Clear, deep golden with a small, white head showing moderate retention. Nose is a lovely mix of fresh, herbal hops and rich, but still seemingly well-attenuated, honey-like malts with light mineral character and no alcohol or flaw. Maybe a touch of doughiness as it warms and it does get a bit heavy on the malt, but it's hard to complain about maltiness in a heller bock. Soft and very malty in the mouth with tons of rich honey-like malt character, great herbal hop notes that add moderate bitterness and plentiful flavor, yielding a pretty good balance which still tends malty at the end. It's a bit brutish at times, as the aforementioned malts are quite rich and the hops pack a surprising amount of bitterness, but it's a fun beer if you're looking for something a little more flavorful. Still quite clean with no alcohol.

Growler from Joe Canal’s in Lawrenceville, NJ. Pours a dark Amber color with a frothy beige head. Caramel malt nose has earthy, herbal hoppy notes. Flavor follows the nose with tobacco and toffeeish notes. Notes of red berries and vanilla. Light peppery hop spiciness in finish. Different.
