Hop Henge Experimental IPA is our annual exercise in IBU escalation. An outrageous amount of Centennial and Cascade hops are added to each barrel, with a heavy dry-hop presence as well. It is dense and muscular, with a blend of crystal, pale and carastan malts creating an overall biscuity characteristic. It’s all hop, no apologies.

depp orange pour with a sticky beige head. Aroma of pine, grapefruit, oranges, and a touch of alcohol. Flavor is intense! Hops, hops, and more hops! Wow, ok this should be in the Double IPA category, no way is this a run of the mill IPA. The hops are relentless. Sticky oily resinous hops with notes of pine, and citrus. Wow, VERY bitter finish. An intense beer. I’m not getting much malt, this seems pretty one sided to me, its just thrashing my taste buds. Hop head seek this beer out!! i love it!

From tap at Deschutes Brewery, Bend. 2017 version at 8% abv. Aroma is big resinous hops yielding lots of pine resin and sweetish tropical fruits including grapefruit and ripe orange. Bold bittersweet flavour. Body is above medium. Rich and very hoppy. Delicious IIPA candy...

Bottle from Ericandersnavy, thanks! Orange amber color. Melon, lychee, grapefruit and oily hops in the aroma. An oily chalky hopbitterness in the flavor. Almost woody, with pepper, pipe tobacco, lychee, pineapple and citrus. Lasting woody hopbitter aftertaste. Good!

On tap at Angels Trumpet Ale House. A bit hazy light amber with a small white head. Aroma of hops, citrus, some malt and light herbs. The same in the taste. Medium body and bitterness.

Draught at St. Augustine's, Vancouver; May 2018
Cloudy golden colour with creamy head. Soft, creamy, moderaty sweet; it has some vegetable note, strong orange peel character; maybe not very fresh, or maybe this concept of IIPA is surpassed in 2018.
Ok beer.

Draught at Portland Craft, Vancouver; Nov 2016; 12 oz
Hazy amber color with some red hue. The malt profile is a bit caramelly, the hop is resiny and orangey, it has a robust body and some alcohol kick, and it tastes a bit old.
Deschutes should control better what happens to their kegs…

Hop Henge came to me from the Total Wine in Santa Fe some weeks ago. My bottle says best by 6/7/18, oh well, missed that, and 8.3% ABV. I pour into my New Belgium globe glass and see a cloudy orange-yellow body finished by a wispy, mostly white top. A smell now, citrus and grass, pretty decent. A taste follows, orange, pine needles, grapefruit, a subdued hoppiness, Been burned out on IPAs lately, Hop Henge brings me back. Well done.

2018 version. 8.3%. 90 IBU. Pretty legit numbers for a six pack beer. Old school Cascade tone, big and resinous. A real blast from the past, a true NW feel. I don't really enjoy the aroma, sort of burnt diesel hops, but the taste is nice. Respectable enough offering at $8.99 a sixpack.
