Can from Drankenhandel Leiden. Ink black pour with a modest head that quickly dissipates. Aroma is roasted malt with bourbon, oak, chocolate, notes of dried fruits, and more barrel notes. Flavour is sweet with a roasty bitterness. Body is full with low carbonation. Heavy on the barrel, solid.

Can. Opaque dark brown beer, small pale tan head. Smooth palate, semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth dark malts, a modest and fruity dark chocolate that blends well with the ripe and fairly strong fruity bourbon that exhibits almost no spice. Smooth finish. Just one of those great impies that is basically a bourbon delivery system. Nicely done.

Can. Black. Vanilla, soft roast, dried fruit and a hint of oak in the aroma. Thick. Malty sweet flavor with soft roast, dried fruit, vanilla, even some smoke. Oak, soft vinous notes. Very nice.

33cl Can from Vonk. Black colour, thin beige head. Aroma of booze, wood, whisky, roasted malts, coffee, dark chocolate, caramel. Flavour is medium sweet, lots of roast as well, coffee, whisky, wood, hint of blackberries, dark chocolate, bitter and slightly boozy finish. Full bodied. Good stuff.

On tap @Luppolo Station (Rome). Nera, densa, impenetrabile, schiuma beige leggera. Al naso note di caffè, liquirizia, alcol, leggera oliva verde. In bocca è appena dolce all'attacco con finale amaro caffettoso con una punta di radice. Corpo pieno, carbonazione medio-leggera. Da rivedere.

7th International Pre Brugge Beer Festival Bottle Swap (in De Bierboom); Friday 1st Feb 2019. One of three draft beers available on the night, I had this first. Black oily body, tanned foaming head. Full of roasted barley and sweet malty molasses, plenty of alcohol too. Far to easy on the palate, my 15cl glass was empty before you could say Cheers.

Can. Pours darkest brown. Aroma is booze, barrel, caramel, nuts, glue. Body is heavy, boozy, sticky and sweet. Strong. Nuts and caramel, almost too much. But works well, good balance. Very good!

0.33 l can from 'Ace Drinks', best before October 2021. Pitch black, barely any head. Sweetish-malty, rather roasty aroma of mocca, praline, some nuts, a touch of vanilla and traces of licorice. Quite sweet, malty, gently roasty taste of mocca, praline, bourbon, vanilla, some nuts and a touch of licorice, followed by a medium long, gently roasty-bitter, slightly earthy and a bit warming finish. Medium to full body, creamy to oily mouthfeel, soft carbonation. Very good RIS, superbly balanced, intense and saturating. Don't get much of the barrel in the smell but even more so while drinking.
