Bomber from South Bay Drug. Opaque brown/black color with a decent dark tan head. Aromas of chocolate, dark fruit and coffee. Medium body with creamy carbonation. Flavor is rather sweet, heat, dark fruit and coffee. Some chocolate as well. The heat seems to calm down after a bit. Good drink. Rerate: Bottle shared by Marcus. Dark brown/black color with purple edges. Slight tan head. Medium body with mild carbonation. Flavor is burnt malt, brandy, and very slight treacle. Slight sour touch perhaps in the finish. Overall excellent. No significant change in numbers. Good brew.

Bottle, 8% at LCRBM08. Weak fruity aroma. Black colour, small brown head. Roasted and slightly sweet, well-balanced. Needs a bit of the carbonation swirled out of it.

Bottle @ LCRBM 08: Poured a dark black with a brown head. The aroma is of coffee bean. The taste is a mix of coffee, roasted malts, and hints of chocolate.

Huge greige head over black beer with some red highlights. Very hoppy, C-hops, liquorice, ink & coffee. Hoppy, ink & coffee returning in the taste with cark chocolate, and CO²-related acidity. Dark malts and sweet chocolate in the finish. Very carbonated, fizzy feeling, well bodied. Nice stout, if nowhere as dazzling as the in-house tried draught versions.

From tap at Pizza Port Carlsbad. Pours dark brown to black with a light redish glare and a lacing off-white head. Roasted and fruity aroma. Flavour is hard roasted malt but also mild acidic to citric fruity flavour. Ends with a mild roasted and acidic fruity finish. Lovely.

tap at the brewery - This brew should possibly be under a separate entry, but I’m not sure where. They had it listed as 8%, so it’s maybe not the somewhat strong barrel aged Sea Monster already listed here. But I’m pretty sure it was different than the standard bottled brew. What I got was a near black beer with a tan head. The flavor was very sweet and had a very unusual taste to it that I couldn’t place, so I asked the brewer. Grand Marnier was involved. If I remember correctly, it was oak chips soaked in Grand Marnier that were used during the brewing process. Frankly I’m not convinced the result was as good as this stout might have been without them, but it was certainly an interesting, creative effort.

On Tap (cask) at Ballast’s 10th Anniv. Very dark with mocha head. Nice chocolate and black patent malt aroma. Good stout flavor with fresh chocolate and black patent malts. The malts are almost too vibrant. I get a bit of licorice too. Good beer.
