Tasted @ EBF 2008. Vanilla and honey in the aroma. Vanilla, oak and raisin in the flavor. Malty sweetish, well balanced brew.

Draft. A hazy deep red beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma has notes of strawberries and fruits. The flavor has notes of wood, roasted malt, and strawberries as well as lighter notes of brettanomyces, leading to a slightly tart finish. Seems off.

EBF 2008. Black with a thick and lasting light brown head. Licorice and roasted malt aroma, with a strong oak and tannin presence. Roasted flavour with citrus hops and oak. Smooth and rather light body. One of my pleasant surprises at the European beer festival in Copenhagen.

Draught at Plan B, Frederiksborggade 48, 1360 Copenhagen, Denmark. Clear medium black color with virtually none head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, burnt, cold coffee, acidic cooffee, oak notes. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long to average duration. Body is medium, texture is thin but still oily - syrupy ! carbonation is soft. 110908

(On tap) Completely opaque black with a small, light brown head. Aroma of black roasted malts and an acidic oakyness. Medium body with dry, hard roasted malt accents and again oak. Distinct underlying acidity as in all of the barrel-aged Braunsteins, in this one it works perfectly. Ends with a discreet malt bitterness. 140908

On tap at EBF 08. Black, thin tan head. Nice powdery choc, but a little uncultured. Bit dull. Not that good.

Served reasonable chilled from tap at EBF 08. Inviting smell of malt-accented bourbon. Liquorice acidity with oaky dryness coming through, and with soft bitter hops closing in. Flat and dry in the mouth. Dark body colour, patchy surface. Refreshing and a rather unusual porter. Like it (14.09.2008).

Had this at the Plan B, Kobenhaven 13-09-08 Pours black as coal with brown at the edges. Mouthfeel is just a little sour, there is quite an unusual taste to this with some fishiness and a little dill along with some woodiness. A hard beer to get into, but once you have its reasonably rewarding.
