Bottled September 20th 2024, bought locally.

Pours black but with hues of red. Small head of foam slowly dissipates, but left with a fine layer .

Smell is of roasted malt, dark chocolate, little bit fruity, has sweet and bitter notes.

Taste is roasted malt, some dark chocolate, hints of dark fruit, semi sweet with some bitterness.

Good mouthfeel, quite the good 5.6% abv Stout.

Bottle. Blackish pour with a large foamy beige head. The aroma is faint with roasted grains. The taste is more well roasted grains, a bit of coffee, and some mocha. The palate is full and creamy. Finishes medium in duration and semi-sweet. Overall: Decent stout.

This review was imported from my RateBeer ratings.

11.2 oz. (350 ml) bottle, 5.6% ABV. I could not find a "Best by" or "Brewed on" date anywhere on the bottle or the carton.

AROMA: Sweet with strong scents of chocolate, dark (almost burnt) caramel, cola, milk, and coffee. The aroma really reminds me of a mochaccino with its mix of dark coffee, milk, and chocolate.

APPEARANCE: Pours an opaque black with a mid-height, dirty tan, head that dissipates slowly with moderate lacing.

TASTE: The front-end is lightly sweet and earthy, with big flavors of chocolate, dark roasted coffee, and caramel with a hint of milk. The back-end is a little dry with a touch of bitterness and a strange, metallic tang that quickly transitions to milk chocolate before fading away to nothingness. It's a nice balance of bitter and sweet with flavors that are strong without being overpowering.

MOUTHFEEL: Medium-bodied but leaning towards full-bodied. Smooth and slightly creamy with above-average carbonation.

OVERALL: There's a reason why this beer is such a classic. It's well-balanced, has enticing aromas with great flavors that don't overpower, and goes down smooth. This is one of the few beers that I could drink one-after-another and my palate would never tire of it. What can I say other than this is an excellent beer. Is it my favorite beer? No. Is it the best beer I've ever had? No. But really, all that matters is that I will purchase this over-and-over again because it is so pleasing on so many levels.

NOTE: Trying to find the right version of Guinness Extra Stout to rate here on Rate Beer was a bit challenging. When I did a search by name, it returned like 30+ results. I figured maybe it would just be easier to scan the barcode, rather than sift through all the search results. When I scanned the barcode it immediately took me to one of the beers, so I started to write my review of it. As I was writing, I noticed that the beer's description showed a different ABV than what it said on my bottle. Upon closer examination of the info on Rate Beer, I concluded that it was not the correct version of the beer I was trying to rate. So I had to resort to going back through the 30+ search results until I found the one that correctly matched the beer I had. Given the number of versions there are, and the (sometimes) subtle differences between them, I wonder how many people are choosing the wrong version to rate/review.
