Tap @ De Molen. Dark chocolate and licorice in the overwhelming aroma. The dark chocolate returns in the much more Islay malt whisky like flavor. Smoke, lapsang souchong tea, tar, peat, hints of licorice. Well made, very tasty beer that hides the alcohol well and that should gain more complexity with further maturation. Already more than excellent.

75 cl bottle @ ISKTR ’16. Brewed 08.07.2008, bottled 14.08.2008.
Bottle 49/260
Aroma has musty licorice tones, some chocolate and weird hayish notes. Flavour has strong peated notes, licorice and saltiness. Very good, like a Hemel & Aarde lite. Almost no signs of the old age here; I could not tell that this is 8 years old.

750ml bottle @ ISKTR. Bottled 14.8.2008. Pours pitch black with a small head. Aroma of sweetish roasty malts, syrup, caramel, hints of whisky, wood, toffee and candy. Taste is sweet, mildly roasty and syrupy with some toffee, wood and caramel. Finish is sticky, sweet and roasty with some earthiness, salty licorice, hints of peat and wood. Okay.

Opaque black beer. Low carbonation. Initially the roasty malt comes across as very strong but then after that shock has subsideed there is a strange sour fruit and herbal malt taste. Finishes on a sweet aniseed alcohol note. Palate is soft and a little oily. Unique beer that rewards persistence.

Summer 2008 batch bottle number 084/260 thanks to bu11zeye. Pours with a tan head and a brown body. Odd aroma at first: rochefort blue and stilton. Later mellows to barbecue, leather and chocolate. Taste is tobacco, leather, and chocolate. Creamy carbonation.

Draft. A black beer with a thin brown head. The aroma has notes of roasted malt and light notes of smoke. The flavor is very smokey combined with notes of roasted malt, leading to a dry roasted finish.

On tap at European Beer Festival, Copenhagen. An almost black beer with a small, off-white head. Lots of mocha and lots of sugar on the aroma. The flavor continues in the same way, with mocha and sweetness, some alcohol and fruits and a coffee-like bitterness towards the finish. Lasting mocha in the finish, quite dryish. Full-bodied, almost sticky, and warming. Not exactly easy to drink, but very good.(080913)

75cl bottle, ABV 11,5%. Black as night, no head. Aroma of coffee, liquorice, deep roasted malts. Flavour is strong coffee all the way, liquorice, soy sauce, brown sugar, alcohol. Everlasting coffee bitter finish. Very very thick mouthfeel, extremely smooth, but barely drinkable because of the extreme bitter coffee flavour and the high ABV. The alcohol kicked in immediately.
