Chestnut, bubbly head. Med body, almost smoky, soft barrel notes, light fruitiness. Mellow malt complexity. This works.

Pour at Dark Fields of Winter. Pours black with beige head. A lot of cognac on the nose with some roasted malts and coffee. Flavour is coffee, dark chocolate, and a good amount of cognac. Mouthfeel is smooth and lightly carbonated. The cognac flavour was fantastically well-balanced.

330mL can, pours jet black with a small brown head. Nose is pretty strong on those cognac barrels, with plenty of wood, moderate roast, molasses, and a touch of iodine. Flavour is loaded with cognac barrel character -- tons of wood and oak especially -- with moderate roast, molasses, and a touch of iodine. Sweetness is pretty low, as though the cognac barrels absorbed it all, but the base beer is probably just well-attenuated. Cognac BA beers can be brutal; though this is powerful, it manages to restrain itself just enough. Very good.

33cl can from Etre Gourmet web shop. F: big, tanned, good retention. C: black, opaque. A: dark malts, cognac, bit chocolate, apples, peat, woody. T: full malty base, woody, peat, cognac, apples, caramel, chocolate, from where is the peat here? Soft carbonation, good one yet not great.

Pours black with moderate tan head. Big aromas of oaky cognac, peat, raisins and slick roasted malts. Flavors of peaty scotch, sharp bourbon, oak, subtle dark fruit, and oily roasted malts. Indeed, the peat notes are unexpected. But overall quite tasty.

Can, courtesy of Ryan
Black colour. Aroma of dark bread, fireplace, spirit. Smooth mouthfeel, off-dry for the style; dark bread flavour, not as roasty as the average stout; strong barrel character, the cognac gives a fruity and (almost) sour note; mild smoke.
Atypical, very good.

330ml on Alex's porch shared with Ryan. Appearance: dark brown with a dark beige head. Aroma: how the heck it is that smoky? How come this can be a cognac barrel? Taste: smoky, low sweetness, moderate body, smoky finish. Overall: pretty bad for a cognac barrel aged beer, but pretty good for an Islay whiskey barrel aged beer.

Poured from 330mL can. Black with small tan head. Aroma of chocolate, cognac, and a feint hint of wood glue. Deeply woody, hint of smoke, some roast and chocolate with a mild cognac underlay. Decent, possibly a little too much woody intensity.

Malziger Cognac Geruch. Malziger Antrunk, Cognac, Getreide. Kakao, Alkohol, mittelstarke Süße, geringe Herbe. Trockener, vom Cognac stark geprägter Mittelteil, vollmundig, das Kakaoaroma intensiviert sich. Langer Abgang. 12/10/11/10/8/11
