Alesmith's Decadence Anniversary Ale was originally brewed in 2005 to celebrate our first decade in business. The brewers at Alesmith had such a great time concocting Decadence that they decided to make it an annual event, and brew a new style each year to commemorate our Anniversary. The second release in the Decadence series, Dead by Dawn, was inspired by our own seasonal specialty ale, Evil Dead Red. What if we made it bigger, bolder and even more evil?
The result is Decadence 2006 Dead by Dawn, a devilicious auburn-colored ale with a complex sweet caramel maltiness balanced by the just the right amount of hop bitterness. Dead by Dawn showcases an enticing hop flavor and intense hop aroma that rounds out this rich, full-bodied ale.
Join our Anniversary Celebration with Decadence. You'll soon discover why Alesmith is known around the world as the place to find Legendary Craftsmanship.

750mL bottle, sent from Glouglouburp (thanks a lot Dany!), pours a beautiful dark mahogany with a large foamy beige head. Divine aroma of plums, raisins, brown sugar, heaps of caramel malt / toffee, and even a faint trace of hops still roaming around. Flavour brings out huge grapes, some plum and maybe raisins, toffee, and brown sugar - hops have all but died, but doesn't matter, this is exceedingly well-balanced and sort of reminiscent of a barley wine. Absolutely no signs of oxidation or anything going off about this. Finishes quite dry and semi-sweet, with everything working in perfect harmony. Sticky, viscous palate and uber-decadent in all aspects.

Bottle at Churchills, San Marcos. It pours very deep ruby, with a thick off-white head. The nose is pine, resin, raisin, currant, plum, caramel and brown sugar. The taste is caramel, varnish, dark fruit - cherry, prune, plum ,raisin, earth and toast, with alcohol warmth in the finish. Full body, moderate carbonation and slightly sticky mouth-feel. Great balance. All-round it’s very good.

4th October 2008. Imperial Evil Dead Red edition! Cloudy dark brown beer with a frothy tan head. Thick chocolatey malt start leading in to a sweet and sour mid with more chocolate and some fruit. Lingering sour brandy tones in the aftertaste. Complex and tasty.

Brown with a lasting light brown head. Aroma of biscuit malt, lots of hops and a little alcohol. Malty and hoppy flavour, though a little too sweet and a hint of hot alcohol.

Bottle, thx to Dedollewaitor. It pours an unclear, amber body under a dense beige head. Sugary-sweet on the nose, with beefstock and piney, resiny and tropical-fruity hops. The flavor is sweet and malty too, with beefstock, some spicyness and piney hops giving decent bitterness. Full-bodied, almost sticky, slightly warming and effervescent. Bitter end. A lovely and demanding beer combining sweetness, warmth and bitterness nicely. (080823)
