Inspiration for Victoria was found in the artwork at the Victoria Mansion where visual references to Bacchus, the Thracian god of wine, brought the idea of introducing grapes to the beer.
Brewing Victoria begins by crushing five hundred pounds of chardonnay grapes and adding them to the mash with two thousand pounds of Pilsner malt. The brew is then lightly hopped with Hallertau and finished by fermenting with a mix of wine yeast and Belgian abbey-style yeast. The result is a beer with golden highlights, a fruity nose, and a complex finish. Its beer sibling, Victor, uses locally grown red grapes, but is otherwise identical.
Thanks to the Allagash “Give Where You Live” initiative, a portion of the proceeds of Victoria goes to the Victoria Mansion in Portland, Maine.

Tap at Mohawk Bend, LA. It pours light orange, with a thin white head. The nose is mandarin, orange, tinned peach, straw, white grape and sherbet. The taste is pear drops, rhubarb and custard sweets, orange, tangerine, vinous, hay, straw, tangy tartness and marmalade. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Well hidden alcohol and great balance. Delicious.

Slifgtly hazy orange color, not much head. Fruity, Belgian yeasty aroma (peach and mango). Medium-bodied. Sweetish fruity - mango, apricot, apple - flavor. Oily palate. Hides its alcohol very well. Very American Belgian Strong Ale.

Bottle at the Funky 7, Brooklyn. Pours a cloudy, orange gold with a medium, white head. Big nose of yeast, banana, Belgian candi. Medium sweet flavor, some signs of age but I like ’em, citrus, spice, yeast. Medium to full in body with fine to average carbonation. Light warming finish, notes of white grapes, yeast, spice, fruits. Delicious beer. Has held up very well and this was just a joy to drink.

750 ML bottle, purchased at the brewery. Hazy yellow in color. Light head retention. Mild grape tones with some sweet pale malts. A BOAT load of chardonnay grape flavors, spicy, yet subtle. Low to medium body. Active carbonation within the beer. a little dry, but crisp. Sorry, but for me this was Welch’s White Grape Juice meets a weak white ale. Not bad, but certainly nothing special.

Bottle at Allagash tasting/front office. Pours out a hazy golden topped with a cloudy head. Aroma was of spice, grape, and some citrus notes. Taste was more of the spice, some lemon zest and a little fruit.

Cloudy orange - amber beer. Dry crisp palate. Low carbonation. Not sure what this beer wants to be! Mild malt with an underlying spice, a little orange citrus and somewhere in there is a peep of grape freshness. Okay but was hoping for so much more from this beer!

750ml bottle-pours yellow/gold with a light tan head. Aroma is apple/grape, light malt, yeast. Taste is medium malt-caramel/honey, spice hops, yeast. Drying. Soft effervescence.

750 ml bottle (2009) from Country Club. Nose is yeast, cloves, corriander, light fruitiness, and a hint of tart grapes. Cloudy yellow orange with a medium pale yellow head. Flavor is nicely spicy, peppery, and yeasty with moderate sweetness and a hint of lemon. Nicely balanced.

on tap at Allagash tasting at Stags Head. Pours a yellow orange, and tastes of citrus, and dough, you get slight grapes, and apricot. its pretty sweet and reminds me of frozen pillsbury cake. it hides alcohol well.
