A truly drinkable German dark lager. Loads of malt complexity - fresh baked rye bread, baker's chocolate, and a hint of coffee, but still light and crisp. Named for the 700 year old hiking trail in Germany.

Deep translucent garnet red-brown body, medium tan head. Aroma a medley of sweet, toasted breads, cocoa, dark fruits (especially berries), and roasted coffee. Body crisp, with cocoa, tangy grain, coffee beans, and tannic dark fruit skins, dry on the whole. Lovely depth. Fantastic schwarzbier.

Can from Livonia Liquor. Pours a chestnut brown with a full two fingers of beige head. Aroams of baker's chocolate, coffee and light herbal notes. More of the same on the palate with loads of baker's chocolate. Drying finish that is crisp and clean.

16oz can pours a murky cola brown with some lacey white head. Nose has malt and candy and cola and marzipan. Flavor is cream soda, candied pecans, marzipan, malt, tootsie roll. Finished dry, a little bitter. Easy to drink.

Canned 4/5/22, drunk 8/4/22. Clear cola-mahogany-garnet. Large, dark beige head shows strong retention. Honey, almond, biscuit, cola and hazelnut shows good balance with a touch of brown sugar suggesting quite a bit of maltiness. Little/no hops after three months, if there ever were many, but some moderate roasted/toasted malt acidity and light minerality. Clean, no alcohol. Surprisingly very dry, not quite too much so, as there's still a good maltiness to it, yet it ends on a bit too much toasted character, perhaps, with pretzel and seltzer notes alongside cacao, biscuit and hazelnut. Lingering mineral, light roast/toast and hints of brown sugar.

Can pour from Beer and Wine Nation, Merrimack. It's a clear dark ruby with light sparkle, thin cap of khaki head with fair retention and light lacing. Aroma is moderate toasted rye bread and roasted earthy malt with slightest hint of baker's chocolate and coffee. Taste is sweet malts, caramel, rye, hint of dark fruit and late bitter quality. Mouthfeel is light-to-medium bodied with smooth, frothy texture, soft carbonation and crisp, dry finish as taste with very little bitterness. Overall, complexity is there if you look for it. Moderate strength. Decent.

Excited for this one, becoming real schilling fan boy. Darkish brown and fine head. Nose is dark bread and chocolate. Tastes of pumpernickel, chocolate, plum, raisin, char. Some sweetness. Lighter bodied and easy drinking.
