Basalt - Barrel Aged Imperial Stout - Basalt is a rich, dark and enticing imperial stout that spent a year aging in Islay, Speyside, and Bourbon barrels. There's notes of gentle smoke and salinity alongside some sweet warming woodiness.

200ml draught at Tromsø Mikrobryggeri, Neon Raptor TTO. Shared with Pictoman. Jet black in the glass, spotty lacing, covering beige head. Roasted malt-fruity aromas, dry, attractive. Solid taste character of dark fruit, dark chocolate malts, and wood, subdued vanilla-like lactose in the background. Lingering, slightly roasted malt-fruity tail, with a note of warming whisky. Full bodied nightcap. Pleasing. (Tromsø, 27.04.2023).

440ml can. Pours jet black with no head. Aroma is tar, treacle, bourbon and a little peat. Taste is sweet to start with a heavy bourbon, peat and tar finish.

Poured from the tap. Near black with minimal beige head. Was expecting a lot more smoke, but this is well balanced. Very feint smoke, bourbon forward, light vanilla, quite nice.
