In 2002 a Norwegian radio program made a nationwide poll to find their listeners' favorite cake, and with no less than 69% of the votes ‘Kvæfjord Cake’ came in on top. With typical Norwegian modesty the cake with the now long forgotten Danish roots was simply announced to be ‘The World’s Best cake’.
So when we here at Amager Bryghus were contacted by the Bådin brewery from Bodø in North-western Norway – only a solid stone’s throw from Harstad and Kvæfjorden - to do a collaboration beer, it only felt natural to revive this cake in a beer. Sweet friendship in liquid form.
This beer is a collaboration made with Bådin from Bodø, Norway.

Black with a roasted malt, chocolate, vanilla and some marzipan sense. Double sweet with a roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and some dried fruits sense at the finis. Not the world's best, but pretty nice. Bought Vinmonopolet Bodø.

Nice easy drinkable stout. Pleasant spiced Black pour and a fine beige head. Fine intensity in the aroma. Balanced sweetness and a fine smooth carbonation level. Dark malt, vanilla, coffee, spices and chocolate in the flavor. [Can from Mjorud Advent Calendar 23]

Cam 440ml (Kihoskh) Opaque colour, small beige head. Sweet aroma with chocolate, vanilla and liquer. Medium-bodied. Very sweet: almonds, vanilla, chocolate, sugar... Really liquid pastry cake brew. Diabetes is coming.

A black beer, a head is quite small and brown. Aroma has caramel, vanilla, almond, feels very sweet. Taste has the same sweet notes as in the aroma, caramel, amaretto, vanilla. Full bodied. Too sweet but still somehow drinkable.

Smell of coffee, cake, some molasses. Black colour, brown head. Aroma of molasses, vanilla, cake, chocolate, saccharine. Thick texture. Soft carbon. Oversweet. Nicely hides ABV.

A small taste @ the flagship Alko, press blind tasting. Pours pitch black with a medium brown head. Aroma is roasted malts with milk chocolate, light coffee. Flavor is sweet roasted malts, chocolate, coffee, whisky, hops. A bit oversweet but still good.

440ml can bought at Vinmonopolet City Nord. Fast declining tan head, jet black in the glass, scattered lacing. Vanilla sweet malty aromas, quite promising. Sweet flavours of vanilla chocolate, caramel, and almond, some kind of spices to it. Smooth and sweet malty finish. Heavy to drink and way too sweet. Still possible to drink as a lingering sipper. (Bodø Panorama, 12.11.2023).
