For generations the recipe of Görchlabier has always been passed on from father to son. It is a naturally cloudy, unfiltered ''Landbier'' with hops and malt from controlled cultivation. With an original wort content of 12.8% and an alcohol content of 4.9%, it is stored for at least 8 weeks before it is served in our brewery inn. Since 2004 the beer is also sold in swing top bottles.

Schnapp-Fläschla (purchased at the Brauerei!): Amber coloured, not completely clear, creamy off-white foamy layer with a little lace, sweetish-bitter dark malty to grainy-dusty nose, fruity spots included, herbal hops underneath; mild to moderate bitter-sweet flavour, pretty light bodied, pretty soft; shorter herbal and fruity-malty finish with a delicate rural touch. Yes... Not the greatest franconian Seidla...

Swing top bottle, bought at the brewery. Orange blonde color, hazy, with the tiniest chunks of yeast in my glass. Melon and sour milk in the aroma. Medium bodied. Hoppy, milky, malty flavor. Melon. Slight earthy character. Hopbitter aftertaste with melon. Tasty! .

Bottle from the brewery, opened about 2 weeks later. Amber-orange color, hazy, medium, fine head. Malty nose, Vienna and/or Munich malts, caramel, bread. A bit metallic. Malty flavor, caramel, peaches, minerals, almost nothing hopwise. This is obviously a very different beer from the one served on tap in the pub. It’s not bad, but just a boring Vienna lager, basically, while the tap version is wonderful and strangely unique. A huge disappointment.

Swing top 500ml (BB 09/2010)
Courtesy of Edo (me thinks). Slightly hazy amber color, small white head. Grainy malty aroma with hints of apples. Light to medium bodied. Slightly caramelly maltyness, grains, cardboard, some odd fruity notes. Lingering bitterness in the aftertaste. A bit off with off-flavors (sic!) so when drinked fresh probably a nice beer. Now kind of weird.

Bottled. A golden beer with sediment floating around under an off-white head. The aroma is sweet malty with notes of caramel and bread. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and bread as well as light notes of citrus and a light acidic edge, leading to a dry cardboard finish. Thanks yespr for sharing.
