0.33 l bottle from 'Hofladen Sauerland', best before June 2021. Clear, very dark ruby with a medium large, frothy, stable, beige head. Sweetish-malty, a little fruity aroma of caramel, raisins, burnt sugar and traces of nuts. Gently sweet, malty, moderately bitter, slightly roasty and a bit fruity taste of caramel, coffee, some nuts and a touch of raisins, followed by a short, gently roasty-bitter, a little earthy finish. Thin to medium body, gently effervescent mouthfeel, average carbonation. Pleasant, well-balanced Dunkel, quite nice.

Grapes, licorice and caramel in the aroma. Malty sweet flavor with a hint of toast. Touches of smoke and roast in the aftertaste. Thanks to MoritzF for this delicious bottle.

330ml bottle. Clear, dark brown colour with ruby red glimmer and small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white to beige head. Sweet-ish, dark malty aroma, hints of treacle and chocolate, light horse stable scent. Taste is slightly sweet dark malty, hints of treacle, dry, roasty dark malty counterpart, mildly grassy hoppy overtones.

0,33 l bottle. Thanks a lot to Kristall-König! A darkest red brown, nearly black in the glass, small light tanned head. Low malty nose. Starts malty, decent sweetness, later more toasted malt. Longlasting aftertaste. Nice one.

16.9oz bottle. Putrid sweet chocolate. Thinnish factory feel. Not the worst beer ever, the chocolate and caramel kind of keep it alive. Almost a coffee feel. Very extract sugary feeling. Not good, but not quite a drain pour.

Paid $3.29 for a 16.9 oz. bottle at Carls Meat Market. Dark ruby color with no head. Aroma has standard caramel and weak roasted hints, brown sugar.
Flavor is toffee, burnt nuts and light raisin. Texture is watery with a thin body. European / German malt variety. Light metal hints. Lighter in body, low carbonation. Drinkable but not something to search for.

500mL bottle poured into a La Fin Du Monde tulip. Pours very dark brown color with a tiny head. Aroma is metallic, slight dusty, and clean roast layered malts. Flavor is similarly nice clean roast but some old dirty water (very early age) coming through. Picked this up at a Russian store with no date on the bottle. Not bad but not fresh. Also seems more like a Schwarz.

Test vom 11.4.2008, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 12,10,10,10,12,10 - 10,30

500 ml bottle into lager glass, no bottle dating. Pours crystal clear reddish brown color with a 1 finger dense cream colored head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty lacing clings down the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of caramel, pear, apple, toast, toffee, nuttiness, brown sugar, brown bread, floral, and light earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance and of malt and fruity ester notes; with decent strength. Taste of caramel, pear, apple, toast, toffee, nuttiness, light roast, brown sugar, brown bread, floral, light pepper, and floral earthiness. Lingering notes of caramel, light fruits, toast, toffee, nuttiness, light roast, brown bread, floral, light pepper, and floral earthiness on the finish for a bit. Very nice flavor balance of malt, hop, and ester flavors; with a good amount of robustness and no cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a moderately creamy and lightly crisp mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a very good dunkel lager. Good robustness and balance of malt and moderate fruity esters; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.
