St. Bridget, a legendary Irish saint, created a sensation by turning her bathwater into beer. What better way to celebrate her worthy miracle than with our zymurgistic tribute to her feat, St. Bridget’s Porter. St. Bridget’s is a smooth, elegant, and chocolaty brown porter. Brimming with coffee and chocolate characteristics from dark barley malts, St. Bridget’s is carefully hopped to provide the perfect complement to its malty robustness.

Bottle at Sorbon in June 09. A black-colored liquid the head was initially large. Pleasant aroma of roasted malt with hints of coffee and smoke. The taste, was pleasant, some coffee and chocolate but also a little smoke. Perhaps a bit thin, but quite ok to drink anyway. Not advanced but solid and pleasant.

Dark brown ale, impressive lace - a nice hybrid of traditional british and nontraditional american porter styles - chocolate sweetness and somewhat debittered black malts - quite a bit of roast that works well with the american hop profile - creamy in the mouth - medum bodied - a nice balance of sweetness, roast, and bitterness - a fairly solid porter.

Botte as shown. Pours a very dark brown with a medium frothy light tan head that lasts awhile leaving behind good spotty lacing along the glass. The aroma is roasted malt with coffee and sweet caramel. Thin mouthfeel and a bit watery on the palate. Taste is sweet roasted malt with coffee and caramel. Easy to drink a very good Porter from Great Divide.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown with a tan head that is little more than a thin layer of bubbles after a few seconds. Sweet roasted malt and a kind of funky cocoa/milk chocolate greet the nose, and flavors are consistent with this: a mix of cocoa, a little bit of peat, leather and vanilla. Mouthfeel is thin and silky, while finish is an odd mix of dry, earthy and sweet chocolate.

Pours an almost black color and has a brown head. Aroma is like most porters. This one focuses on the chocolate and roasted dark malts. Flavor has some coffee and a lot of chocolate to it. It is a smooth porter and not offensive to even the most mild sensibility. Not a robust porter as a previous reviewer noted (my archetype of that porter style is smuttynose). Overall quite nice. Great Divide does not like to disappoint.

Pours deep mahogany into a shaker. Mocha head recedes leaving no lacing. Smoked dark chocolate aromas. Upfront lightly carbonated with chocolate and smoke, but well-balanced with slight hops in the dry finish.
