Bottle. Dark almost black in colour with a tan head. Arom of vanilla and coffee. Roasted flavor with lots of vanilla. Hints of chocolate and coffee too. Sweet aftertaste with vanilla. Very drinkable.

I guessed this was a coconut porter without reading the description (Japan might be the only place where coconut porter is not all the rare). Now I realized I mistook vanilla’s perfumy qualities with coconut. The nose erupts with vanilla with only a faint hint of chocolate. Sweet malty mouth of vanilla and a milk chocolately finish.

Dark chestnut creamy tanned head. Spicy aroma (licorice, chocolate). Herbal, spice and cocoa tastenotes. Medium body. Milk chocolate aftertaste.

Huge dark, tan, creamy head with some large bubbles; opaque black body. Sweet aroma with vanilla and touches of pine needles. Taste is dense and firm, with more vanilla (quite dominant, in fact), pine needles, and touches of coffee. Aftertaste is lingering driness, roastiness, and spice. Very interesting, and definitely well made, thought I don’t much care for the vanilla.

Bottle. Malty, soapy aroma. Almost black colour, no head. Also soapy flavour. Would have been very good without the soapiness. Nice mouthfeel, low carbonation.

Bottle at Patricks Pub, Kristiansand. (as Klin Kokos) It pours a black body with brownish notes, topped by a small, dark beige head. Mocha, vanilla and black coffee dominates the aroma, very low on coconut I think. Sweetish, roasted and burnt flavor with coffee and vanilla, also here the coconut is more or less absent I think. Not that it matters, I’m more fond of vanilla than coconut. A bit thin in the mouth, without being watery, and a finish with coffee and burn malt. Rating: 6-4-6-3-13-3.2. Didn’t change my score, as it was a cellared bottle I had. (080314)

Bottle, #99, 2004 vintage. Cellared three years. Just writing down some notes on this one, not rerating it. The 2005 vintage is rumoured to aqquire a coconut-like aroma and flavor when cellared for some time, that is not happening with the 2004 vintage. The vanilla is toned down when lagered, leaving more room for the roastyness, chocolate and coffee. There’s still vanilla and sweetness, but sure not as intense as when it was fresh. The finish has a distinct smoked note as well. Plesant, me thinks. Pity it’s not brewed this year. (071220)

Bottled. (2005). Almost jet black, with a dense, tan head. Aroma is dominated by vanilla, with roasted elements and chocolate. Sweet, vanilla flavor with roasted malt and chokolate. Medium body with a pleasant bitterness to accomplish the flavor at the end. Definately not a session beer, but cheerfully enjoyed with christmas chocolates last year. (F.ex. Dark brown, almost opaque black, not much head. Strong nose of chocolate and vanilla. Lots of vanilla and some wood in the flavor, even some smoke. Dry woody aftertaste.
