Czech Mates is a Czech Style Lager brewed in collaboration with the state-owned Budweiser Budvar Brewery in the Czech Republic. This is the first official collaboration with a brewery outside of their home country and we are incredibly proud to have this honour. The beer is brewed using the Budvar yeast strain and the Budvar decoction method of brewing, but uses English malt and hops for an English twist. Be prepared for this to be your summer go-to lager!

Hops - Goldings
Malt - Low Colour Maris Otter, Crystal, T50 Malts

On keg at the Guildford Arms.
Appearance - golden and clear, foamy white head and steady carbonation.
Nose - sweet malt, going into honey or even caramel. Some grassiness.
Taste - more sweeter lager notes, mainly malts and honey.
Palate - light bodied, the finish could be more bitter for the style.
Overall - ok.

Clear gold with fluffy white top which settles nicely. Aroma of dusty grains, cereal, hint of citrus. Taste is quite sweet, certainly herbal and floral, some citrus and chalkiness. Decent bitterness. Light to mid bodied, a touch cloying. My 100th Derbyshire rate.

Can from Asda Supermarket, Manchester. Golden-orange with a very small head. Light in its character to almost bland, but not undrinkable levels. It's certainly better than macro stuff though.
