Cask at the Wellington, Birmingham. Pours black with small beige head. This one turned out to be quite a mellow stout with lots of chocolate but a bit light on the roasted malt character even though it wasn't a milk stout. I did pick up a hint of liquorice. Nice smooth creamy mouthfeel. OK.

Cask at Waters Green Tavern, Macclesfield The nose is a peculiar mixture of bacon and chocolate. Pours a very dark brown with a small beige head and soft carbonation. In the mouth there is chocolate and coffee but also fruity hints like black cherries. The dark fruits predominate in the finish, but there is also a sharpness not previously apparent. Quite nice.

Black beer, thin head. Aroma is sweet chocolate and malt, a bit of liquourice. Taste has a bit of the same, some tangy fruit, earthy malt. Flavour is quite light but it’s not watery. Solid.
