Bottle, first beer of 2007!
A good American Pale Ale, enough malt, dry mouthfeel, very good hopping bearing biting resins, both aroma and taste. Very pleasant, good to start the year with.

Bottle. Pours a deep amber with a small tan head. Nice hoppy maltiness in the nose, or should I say malty hoppiness? Hmm. Flavor’s the same. Typical amber ale with a nice amount of hops added. Tasty.

Sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle this beer poured a dark caramel color with a large dark tan head. The aroma is fruity and spicy hops. The flavor is strong fruity, floral and spicy hops. There is a nice underlying sweet maltiness and a long peppery finish. Nice.

Decent stuff, 12 oz bottle with the usual type of design. Poured into a small rounded goblet glass. Pours with no head and a bit of lacing. Aroma is very present, all hop. Kind of a sweet not too oily hop. Taste is all hop as well, piney sweet PNW feel. Not oily either. A hopped up amber, not bad for Magic Hat. Moderate bitterness and an average mouthfeel.

Cask. Hazed dark amber ale with a big bubbled off white head. Aroma of caramle, herbal hops, illicit material, light nutty notes. In mouth, a classy hoppy ale with orange, and treacle, herbal, pleasing. Medium bodied. The Real Beer Expo - Rochester, NY, Oct. 21, 2006.

I find it hard to believe that I’m only the second ratebeerian to have this - oh well - quite a nice amber ale here - quite a dry, woody aroma, with some very earthy, fresh hops in the mix (I think I smell simcoe as the most prominent) - quite a dry, hoppy flavor, with some slight biscuit/gingerbread and mild spiciness - not quite enough malt to balance the dryness and hop bitterness, but this is still pretty tasty, and nearly devoid of that "magic hat taste," which is a plus for me - worth picking up a six pack of.
