2006 bottle from MiP, with my thanks! Dark brown color, with chunks of yeast floating. Cardemom and brown sugar in the aroma. Sweet and rather spicy flavor (cardemom, laurel, and undoubtedly some some). Brwon sugar and caramel. Dry, spicy aftertaste. Well brewed, but not my taste.

Bottle @ Home. 2006 vintage. Pours very dark brown with a creamy light tan head. Aroma of malt, bread, chocolate notes, dark fruits, plum, dates, little oxidation, alcohol. Flavor is rich malty, bready, chocolate, licorice, dark dried fruit, dates, raisin, light boozy, just a hint of oxidation. Medium body, soft carbonation, some warming alcohol in the finish. Have aged nicely, shows just weak signs of oxidation. 170214

50 cl bottle vintage 2007, rated on 20.09.2010
Red-brown colour. Aroma has spices, gingerbread and licorice. Flavour has spices, cherry cola and hints of solvent. A bit weird but ok.

Cloudy dark brown beer. Dry palate. Marmite and sweet malt and something mildly spicy, ginger? An odd combination that just about hangs together.

Vintage 2007. Dark brown with a brown head. Aroma is sweet, heavy malty, roasted malt, chocolate, dried fruit, spicy and yeasty. Flavor is very sweet and bitter. Full bodied. Great christmas beer and it only gets better as the years go by. 231210

(bottle, courtesy of Papsoe) Hazy, dark brown colour with a ruby shine and with a mid-sized tanned foamy head. Sweet roast-malty aroma with ethereally and spicy notes, accompanied by a tinge of alcohol and plums. Sweet flavour, full bodied with a soft carbonation. Roast-malty taste with fruity elements and a slightly vinous touch; sweet malty and cinnamon spicy finish Fits its name. 16.IX.08

500 ml bottle, 2006 vintage sampled@RBNAG 2009, Vatlandsvåg. This rating is compared with my notes for the 04, 05 and 06vintage sampled fresh. Clear mahogany body with a beige head that’s creamy on the fresh version but small and diminishing in the old version. Aroma of light burnt malt, some caramel and spicy – the old version has less burnt aroma and a light pleasant butterscotch impression together with Madeira. The flavor is mainly malt driven, with a hint of roasted caramel and spices. Balanced bitterness and a hint of warming alcohol, this becomes more like dry fruit and Madeira in the old version. This is a damn good Belgium inspired Christmas beer served fresh and becomes more Barley Wine’ish when matured. A totally different beer, I like them both but luckily I had many occasions to sample this and prefer a one year storage version.
