BA Wheatwine 12% vol
A rich wheatwine aged in tawny, ruby and white port wine barrels. Created in collaboration with Bavarian State Brewery Weihenstephan.
Taste: Malty and rich, with the toasted wheat flavours providing a nice foundation for the vinous barrel character. Suggestions of floral hops, bananas, warming spices and honey emerge as the beer warms.
Appearance: Bright deep red with an off-white head.
Nose: An intricate, sweet aroma with notes of fortified wine, vanilla and brûléed sugar, as well as hints of banana bread and dried apricots.
Malts: Wheat malt, Pilsner zero, Caramel pale
Hops: Herkules, Hallertau Mittelfrüh
OG 29° ; FG 9.5° ; IBU 25

Bottle at work, courtesy of the Pohjala crew. Dried fruits, light esters, vineous notes, tannins and apples yet again. I was stoked for this beer, it’s a bummer it’s quite a let down.

Sample, thanks oh6gdx! Almost clear mahogany colour, small head. Woody port meet bananas and wheat bun dough up front. Sweet with full body and well rounded mouthfeel, some barrel tartness. Complex flavour where tart raisiny oaky port meets caramel and banana. Warming mid bitterness. Elegant, yet deep. Lovely!

Bottle from De Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Very woody with Port barrel notes. Dried fruits, malt, caramel, touch of red fruit, raisin, red grape. Long woody finish. Medium sweet with some alcohol. Nice Port barrel influence, good collab with Weihenstephan.

Junction Road store.
Aromas are malt, caramel, raisins and yeast. Flavors are somewhat similar to nose. Raisins come out more, bittersweeted first going to bitter then a long sweet end. Full bodied with soft carbonation. A touch boozy.
