0.33 l bottle from 'AleHub' as 'Berliner Weisse Export', probably from the 70s. Hazy, orangeish amber with some floaties and a few white bubbles on top of it. Sweetish, slightly sourish, quite funky, gently fruity aroma of ripe apple, walnut, sherry, vanilla, gooseberry and some horse blanket. Minimally sweet, quite sour, rather fruity, slightly funky taste of ripe apple, overripe lemon, gooseberry, vanilla, almond, horse blanket, sherry and walnut, followed by a short, quite tart and very dry, citric finish. Thin to medium body, gently astringent and slightly oily mouthfeel, more or less flat. Super interesting beer, unbelievable how well it held up over all those years. Really resembles a lambic right now, has something of a cider as well.

Many thanks for this old beer to Koelschtrinker. vintage 1970 in small unlabeled bottle. Beer more old than I. Almost half a century. without foam. Pale yellow colour. Drink only half beer. Acid, minimal hoppy, some cider vinegar, some verry dry white wine. Taste some like unblended Lambic. I like sour beer and I like this beer. Still good to drink with only little more than 3% ABV? Whow it's incredible. Thanks Again

1970s unlabeled bottle. Clear golden, no head. Smells quite clean, mostly resembling a semi-dry cider rather than a Berliner. Light clean lacto, qiute thin lacking carbonation, very light generic bitterness. No signs of oxidation or any obvious long term defects.

Fairly strong apple aroma. A good deal of apple sourness. Vinous and chalky. Medium bodied. Milky yoghurt-like flavors. Sharp and citric. Lovely, well-rounded beer.

1970s era bottle returned to former GDR territory near Gatow for consumption with Matthias. Nice fizz with cap removal. Pours cloudy yellow color, few bubbles. Aroma of cider and subtle feet. Taste is lightly tart cider and lemon. Amazing that it survived in decent condition.

bottle. Hazy pale yellow, white head. Sour-fruity nose. Light-bodied, malty base and lots of fruity sourness, gueuze-like, with hints of lemon and a herbal dusty touch in the finish.

Bottle, 33cl, from trade with koelschtrinker. As Groter Jan Schankbier, vintage ca 1979. It’s an almost clear one, dark yellow in color and with a thin layer of white bubbles on top. The aroma is close to gueuze, with hints of cellar and lemon. The flavor has a light acidity, some lemon hints, a faint touch of hay, and with a little note of vinegar. Thin, soft and lightly tart on the palate, finishing more or less as it started. A wonderful one, tasteful, quenching and easy drinkable, sure able to deal with 30+ years of cellaring. Rating: 7-3-7-4-14-3.5. 120608

Bottle, 33 cl, from trade with koelschtrinker. As Landré Schankbier, vintage ca 1979. It’s a clear, yellow beer, with no head. Cellar notes and some lemon on the nsoe. Sure more neutral than the Groter Jan. Fruity flavor with some lemony acidity and a hint of vinegar. Thin, lightly tart and rather flat on the palate. Fruity and lemony finish. Not as impressive as the Groter Jan, but still nice after all these years. Rating: 6-3-6-3-13-3.1. 120608

Bottle, 33 cl, from trade with koelschtrinker. Vintage ca 1979. A flat one, unclear, and yellow in color. Cellar, citrus and ripe fruits in the aroma, with the flavor more or less the same. Mostly citrusy. Lightly tart on the palate, flat and thin. Ripe fruits, lemon and tartness in the finish. Although it hasn’t kept as good as the two others, it’s certainly still much more pleasant than the Berliner Kindl Weissbier. Refreshing and quenching, and quite pleasant too. Thanks a whole lot for providing these Roman. 120608

330 ml bottle dated about 1979, tasted in 2012, courtesy of Yngwie. Pale, almost clear straw-yellow body with just traces of a white head. Aroma of over ripe fruit, acidic lemon and some cellar notes. Not much flavor left, but surprisingly little oxidation as well. Flavor is ripe fruit, mild acidic and a hint of lemon. Feels pretty dead and lacks sufficient acidity to make it “still alive”. Pretty unfair to rate a more than 30 years old Berliner Weisse, than again we had another in the same style and ABV from the same year the same evening, and that was still superb in flavor.
