Bottle from Morrisons' Xmas section rather than their beer section. Clear copper with small off-white head. Typical pasteurised ESB aroma with sweet malts, sultanas and light spices but with suggestions that it has been boiled to death and kept in a slowly rusting tin for 50 years. Taste is more interesting with caramel malt, light chocolate, sultanas, cinnamon and a leafy bitterness. Slightly cloying but has a decent body and a bittersweet tang, drying. Its ok, very drinkable.

(10.12.2024.)

500ml bottle @ monthly tasting, Chez Sophie, May 21. Pours deep brown, off-white head. Surprisingly roasty on the palate, more fruity sultanas and sweet malt was expected, but no drama. Ok.
