Bottle at Landlov, Bod. The colour is dark brown with a small beige head. Aroma of raisins, leather, nuts, licorce, roasted malt and game meat. Flavour of roasted malt, ash, raisins, licorice, leather and warming alcohol in the end. Has a slick mouth feel, full-bodied and a soft bitterness. Rich and surprisingly roasted. Not so much from the red wine.

Thanks to Hoptimaal for providing this beer. In my hand is a 33 cl bottle that will be going into my Chimay glass right now. The view is a mahogany brown liquid with a momentary head of dark tan foam that settles to a tawny light tan rim around the glass. The scent is initially vinous followed by dark fruit by some yeastiness. But the taste, well, it is a leap above the nose. Chocolate, figs, black plums, some oakiness, black bread, a touch of wine sourness, malt and perhaps molasses. Very rich, very dense. It seems boozy to me, a positive. I like this quadrupel considerably, worth the effort to possess and drink.

Bottle. It's surprisingly close to black in the glass, well, at least it's really dark brown. A small firm dark beige head sits on top, leaving some lacing. The aroma is quite roasted for a Quad, with alcohol, wood, some coffee and dark chocolate, dark dried fruits, hints of vanilla and a toasted hint. Some licorice as it warms. It's full-bodied, warming and very smoothly carbonated, sweet and then even more warming, with some tannins. The flavor has roasted malts, dark dried fruit, some coffee and toasted wood, a hint of molasses, nuts and vanilla, and some oak. A decent bitterness too, along with the alcohol preventing the beer from feeling cloying. Lasting finish with all the yumminess from the initial flavor. A fantastic beer indeed, sure pushing the boundaries for a Quad, and in my opinion a bit on the boozy side. 10-11 % ABV would've been sufficient. Even this 33cl bottle should be shared with at least one friend. But hell, it's a delicious beer indeed. 200610
