Originally rated April 2005. This "Maibock" pours a golden colour with heavy carbonation. The white head with not much retention, leaves good lacing. At first I could smell the hop, and oh boy was it good. Then the aromas become mostly malt, on the lighter side. The taste was also different at first, being very metallic. Then it was delicate and smooth, with hints of corn in the aftertaste. Some kind of bitterness, but mostly in the back of the palate. Some alcohol in the nose. Not bad, but more or less, a strong lager à-la-7% ABV.

Heller Malzbeginn mit geringer Herbe und Süße. Das Bier wird im Mittelteil milder, die Intensitöt der Aromen gehtaber in Ordnung. Es ist so süffig, die Herbe ist weich. Süß-alkoholischer Abgang. Vollmundig aber nicht ganz harmonisch. 9/9/8/8/9/9

Bottle looks simple but good. Beer in the glass deep black, small head. Starts strong, spicy, some grasy-wheaty notes, modest fruity like lemon. Finish well balanced, quite drinkable. Nice!

Bottle, 7.0%. The aroma is caramelly and sweet, herbal, peppery and slightly soapy. Clear grey golden colour. Small stable white head. The flavour is rather sweet, OK for the style, and in good balance with the alcohol. Quite clean and a little dusty.

Boring dark yellow body, modest head. Aroma is cardboard and rice adjuncts. Flavour is rice smoothness and a few slight hops hints at the end. There really is no way around it - this one just sucks.

Sweet, malty flavor with honey and little complexity or balance. Drinkable but not worthy of being called a maibock--this is a Euro strong lager, good for consuming a large amount of alcohol with a bearable taste, but not a classic Spring festival style.
