Bock beer, released in celebration of the arrival of spring, is an ancient and mysterious part of the brewing tradition. Over time, the term "bock" has come to mean a beer darker and stronger than the brewery’s regular brew. This is the first time we have brewed a bock at Anchor Brewing Co., and we hope you will find it to be a rich and flavorful addition to our offerings. San Francisco’s Anchor Bock Beer is virtually handmade by the brewers of Anchor Steam® Beer, in one of the most traditional small breweries in the world.

Draught via waterfront. Pored dark. Nutty aroma. Good consistency. Malty taste. Pretty well done imo.

Bottle. I was a little disappointed with this one. Oh, I thought it was good but I had higher expectations. Smell was a tad weaker then should be. Appearance was nice dark brown color. Flavor was good because I like dark beer but it was a little weak. Overall, good beer but if I had more options I would probably choose another.

Aroma of dark malt, caramel, dark fruit, light molasses. Flavour is malty, caramel, medium sweet, with a light bitter finish. Nice Bock.

Bottle bought in the Mitra drinks shop, a 90 seconds walk from the place where I spend my working hours. Dark brown color. Lasting creamy head. Coffee, caramel and chocolate in the aroma. Malty flavor with chocolate, blackcurrant (Cascade hops?), roasted malt, grapes and laurel. Hints of coffee. Medium bodied. Not a bock beer like German or Dutch bocks I’ve tasted. Nevertheless a fine and tasty beer.

From Mar 2007

Pours from 12oz bottle a deep brown-amber with a medium sized head of foam that shrinks to a fine broken layer with some lacing.

The smell is of roasted and sweet malt.

The taste on first sip has some real nice malty things going on. I can taste some sweetness, roastiness and some toffee and there's just a touch of chocolate going on as well. They work very well together indeed.

Further sips in and I get somewhat of a bitter bite from the hops which helps to prevent this Bock from becoming too sweet oh, and the chocolate is a bit more obvious....I'm loving it.

Bottom line: This is a very good example of the style. I recommend it!
