Brewed by Grain d’Orge Hombourg. Sugary aroma. Roast flavor. Malty with raisin. Sweetish, but well rounded and a good balance.

The dark Aubel beer, taken over from Brasserie d’Aubel when it closed. Light yellowish, dense mousse-like, sticky foam and dark bronze colour with rusty reddish hue, transparent and clear. Malty aroma with caramel and bitter chocolate, some subdued fruits (pear, plums) and yeasty spicy notes (liquorice, cinnamon) as well as subtle hops. Taste vaguely sweet, malty, smooth, in the finish with a slight toasted bitterishness and some sticky sweetness, possibly related to the use of apple juice.

(bottle) Hazy, chestnut-brown colour with a beige medium-sized foamy head. Sweet and yeasty toast-malty aroma with an ashy touch and shy notes of berries. Moderately sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a soft carbonation. Rather slim toasty malty base with notes of caramel/toffee, berries and a whiff of spices; sweet and a bit slim malt-accented finish with notes of caramel and a tinge of chocolate. Just okay but not overly convincing for a Dubbel. 03.XII.09

33 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden orange to brown with a collapsing off-white head. Roasted malt, caramel, yeast and a distinct citric aroma. Roasted malt flavour with a light yeast note and a mild citric infection. A bit on the boring side.
