This full-bodied imperial stout pours an opaque mahogany color with a tan head. Its smell is dominated by notes of roasted coffee beans, with a slight hint of chocolate, but Simcoe and Fuggles hops add complexity to the aroma. The roasted barley is detectable in the taste, and this complements the bitterness from the Warrior hops - balancing out the sweetness from the load of malts used in brewing Peg Leg. A creamy mouthfeel makes this a smooth, utterly drinkable beer.

A hazy red-brown beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet malty and very caramelic. The flavor is sweet and again dominated by caramel. I have a hard time convincing myself, that this is an Imperial Stout, too light and not roasted enough to fit the category in my book.

Dark as night, small head. Heavy licorice and roasted almosndlike smell. Bitter flavor... lotsa dark chocolate with a tangy finish. Tasty.

Pour is a black with a nice sized head. Aroma is faint but there. There is some roastyness there. Flavor is chocolate and i get some of the bourbon that others have detected. Decent but does not knock you out like some impy stouts.

I am not a huge Clipper City fan, but I am a big fan of Imperial Stouts. This brew was sampled from a 12 oz brown bottle. The beer poured a black color with a small brown head. The aroma was identical to Hershey’s syrup. The flavor was malty and had a strong chocolate element and a nice hop presence. A hint of fruit underlying. Not bad for the style though there are certainly better out there.
