Roast and some barrel. Pours black with a little head. A hint of perfume. Light bitter end. Definitely smooth for alcohol level. Bottle.

33cl bottle is an oily black, no head. Nose has tootsie Roll, malt, cocoa, booze, marzipan. Booze, licorice and black pepper in the mouth. Full, oily, long finish.

11.2oz bottle. Big, thick Stout. 3 years old, still holds up well. Rich chocolate, honey touched. Really well balanced for a 14% beer. Belgian yeast is restrained. Awesome malt tone. Great beer. The lack of barrel aging in a beer like this is refreshing.

Bottle 33cl. @home poured into tulip glass. Pitch black, thin tan head, disspating quickly, no lacing. Aroma roasted malt, coffee, cocoa, caramel, coffee liqueur, faint forest fruit notes, alcohol. Taste light light heavy sweet and slightly bitter, malty, roast, dark chocolate, coffee, toffee, liquorice, dark fruit, alcohol notes (not overwhelming), Full-bodied, oily texture, velvetty mouthfeel, flat carbonation, malty bittersweet aftertaste, chocolate and coffee notes, light spicy notes, some alcohol, smooth, complex and harmonious, well-balanced, royal it is, excellent.

33 cl. bottle @ home, bought @ Slijterij De Langstraat, Waalwijk.
Black with a small beige head. Chocolate and caramel aroma. Sweet taste with a sweet finish. Not enough roast to counteract the sweetness of the caramel malts in my opinion, leaving me with a cloying sweet caramel syup.

330 ml bottle. Pours black with little head. Aromas of chocolate, dark fruit and slick roasted malts. Flavors of licorice, dark oily fruit, oak, and rich roasty malts. Simple initial flavors but ultimately more complex as it warms up. Reminds me of the old days of de Struise. Very good

Bottle. Black with light brown head that looks like chocolate mousse. Lots of roasted malts, licorice, blackberries, marzipan, brandy, dry oak, rum, chocolate, grapes. Solid sweet, medium bitter. Almost full bodied, a bit boozy. Lovely classic RIS with a lot of complexity, well done.

Toast, less roast and caramel, chocolate, brandy, prunes, salted caramel, well-fitting hop. Light sweet, medium bitter. Have not had any Struise for many years. Surprisingly satisfied.

Bottle from Dranken Vandewoude and drunk at home. Black beer. Thin tan head. Dark chocolate and dark fruits aroma. More of the same in the mouth. Velvety smooth in mouth. Some dark cherry flavour. Very pleasant imperial stout. Good flavours throughout. Hides abv well. Yes. Very good. Love the dark fruit finish. Like a dark chocolate fruit liquor. Nice.

Bottle. Black with a coat of tan head. Fudgy aroma with deep roast, dried banana, Indian sweetshop spices, liquorice. Silky with chocolate, brioche, roast, liquorice then firm bitterness and a little burst of alcohol. Good but strong for what it offers.
