A generous infusion of espresso adds yet another layer of complexity to this beer, combining with the vanilla oak character, intense roasty maltiness and bold hop profile to create a whole new breed of mythical creature.

Motor oil pour, big thick brown head, sticky lacing. Deeeeeep aroma of espresso, very dark smokey espresso. Lots of cocoa nibs, even some sweet milk chocolate, and quite a bit of roasty burnt malt. The flavor is more of the same but the oak really comes through in light smokey woody vanilla in the finish with a very dry bitter kick.

Aug. 2012: Bottle, kindly shared by gunnar. ABV is 9.5%. Pitch black colour, creamy brown head. Intense aroma of chocolate and espresso coffee, also liquorice and oak. The flavour is oaky and roasty with loads of chocolate, without being too sweet. Also notes of liquorice and espresso coffee. Well balanced, an excellent beer!

When I find a new Yeti I tend to put it away for awhile. This Yeti Espresso Oak Aged was found at a liquor store on Cerillos Road in Santa Fe last summer. I have held off until now. Cooled and now poured into my Buffalo Bayou tulip glass, I see the usual Yeti dark brown, almost black body. The head comes on strong, a medium tan color, and dissipates into a rim of foam around the glass. I take a sniff, ah, delightful. Baker's chocolate, fresh bread, caramel. Finally a taste, Coffee, yes I get that, chocolate, strong ash or charcoal, a bit of berry. It comes heavy with the bitterness start to finish. Perhaps not my favorite of the Yetis but better than the vast majority of imperial stouts. Great Divide delivers again.
