Thick, long lasting frothy head. Cherry, raisinny aroma. Porto and licorice. Bit sour with cherry and orange. A bit too sweet, but a well-made beer. Re-rate 75 cl bottle. Gusher. Dark brown color, frothy head. Malt, raisin and cinnamon in the aroma. Sweet malty flavor with chocolate cake, raisin and brown sugar. Nice enough, a bit too sweet and onedimensional maybe.

Typical ’massive ale’ already made by the Scheldebrouwerij when they were still in the Netherlands and referring to an old brewing tradition from Bergen-op-Zoom close to the Belgian border. Thick, yellowish white, firm head over a very dark burgundy, cloudy beer. Aroma rich maltiness, dates, orange, chocolate, port wine, caramel and liquorice but above all a lot of coriander. Full malty, sweet and chocolatey taste, candied fruits, apple, soft with tingling carbonation, orange touch, strong drying coriander, finish a bit sticky, florally hopped and warming but not astringent alcohol. Well-balanced.

1st October 2008. Cloudy dark brown beer. Chocolatey malt with a slightly sour undertone - almost like an aged scotch ale. There is a subtle creamy sweetness in the mid followed by a sharp effervescent sting in the finish. All hangs together well. Tasty and complex.

33cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Muddy dark reddish brown colour, off white head. Strong aroma of sweet dark malts, dark fruits like prunes and raisins, yeast (St.Bernardus-like), some candy sugar. Flavour is very malty, dark bread, rather sweet, dark fruits like figs and raisins, light yeasty, malty sweet and light nutty bitter finish. A bit thin toward the end, overall medium bodied. Nice strong ale, but just a bit too sweet imo.

Bottled. Deep reddish brown colour with mediumsized slightly off-white head. Aroma is caramel malts, some slight alcohol, mild spices as well as some mild chocolaty notes. Flavour is being quite much the same, but the alcohol shows a bit better. Yet the alcohol fits in quite well
