Can from Appellation Wines. Appearance - opaque brown to black. Foamy beige coloured head. Nose - salted caramel, toffee and malt loaf. Taste - chewy salted caramel and cinder toffee. Dark, bitter chocolate. Palate - medium bodied, creamy middle, lightly roasty but mainly sweet. Overall - it's what people want for this kind of style.

On tap at Salt Horse, Edinburgh - deep brown body with a little tan top. Sweet roast chocolate bean nose, lots of cocoa there, rich chocolate taste. Little bittersweet finish, roasted character carries through to the aftertaste.

568ml can from Redland Stores, Bristol. Near black in colour, with reddish undertones and a moderately-sized, beige, head that left plenty of lacing down the glass. Rich aroma of caramel and milk chocolate. Easy drinking with a lot more caramel and chocolate, and a hint of salt. The finish was rich and sweet, with a touch of toastiness. Excellent.

Black beer, thin tan head. Smells of malty caramel. Flavour has big salted caramel, sweet malt, some biscuit. Decent body, nice sweet biscuity finish. Drink it, you plonker!
