In creating and naming Island Life, we wanted to reflect how great a place Orkney is to live, something that’s regularly highlighted in national surveys. This is a very special beer, just like the islands, and we also hope it’ll perform a great ambassadorial role, helping reinforce Orkney’s worldwide reputation for outstanding food and drink.”

Island Life had been brewed with Citra, Cascade, and El Dorado hops from the US. These offer superb strength of flavour, all wrapped up in a light body of pale malt with a relatively low strength. There are mouth-watering flavours of grapefruit and peach, which lead to a crisp, bitter, zesty finish, to be enjoyed time and time again.

500 ml bottle, from Gulating Ølutsalg, Stavanger. ABV is 3.7%. Crystal clear golden colour, moderate white head. Disappointing aroma of wort and dust. Light bodied as expected. Citric flavour, with a sharp and slightly metallic bitterness. Very far from Orkney's best ale.

Cask at The Redgarth Oldmeldrum. It pours crystal clear golden - blonde with a thick, fluffy white head. The aroma is fresh, floral, bright, honeysuckle, honeyed grain, biscuit and a splash of old fashioned lemonade. The taste is firmly dry, nice bitterness, clean, fresh, floral, peppery spice, white grape, elderflower, lemon peel, pithy, zesty, biscuit, cracker and some bread. Finish is firm and dry. Lighter end of medium body and soft, but lively carbonation. One of those beers that really shines in good condition on cask. Lovely
