Optisch dunkles braunrot. In der Nase nussig, Feigen, sehr fruchtig. Im Trunk herrlich aromatisch, Nuss, Malz, Kakao, eingelegte Rumfrüchte, geiles Teil.

Odd tartness on the back end for an American-made Belgian beer, with berry notes replacing the expected clove-dusted sugariness. Not bad, but not what I want from the style.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a thinnish off-white head that fades relatively quickly that leaves a thin lace on the sides. Aroma of deep pitted fruits, a lot of sugars, some molasses and toffee, but mostly figs, raisins, prunes, plums and a good deal of brown sugars - strong in the nose with a lot of yeast and malt here as well, but the sugars are by far the strongest. Medium to Full-bodied; Rich malts dominate here with a lot of prunes, plums, raisins, figs, earth, nuts and some toffee here along with a big kick of the slightly grainy and relatively rustic malt notes that are derived from the malts - good across the board. Aftertaste shows some mellowed yeast and malt components, but the alcohol is still quite noticeable along with a lot of residual sugars and a nice complex pitted fruit finish, complete with the rustic and nutty elements. Overall, a pretty nice beer across the board with a slightly nutty and rustic profile throughout, but the pitted fruits and plums really come out and leave a strong sweetness on the finish with some caramelised sugars as well, but the yeast and malt are structured in such a way that the fruits create a nice interplay with the backbone. Nice to sample and worthy of three years in the bottle, which has surely made this a bit more polished and rounded and not so pungent, but this is definitely still strong, but nice, especially on a cold evening here in the city. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle, purchased exactly three years ago at Whole Foods in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 16-December-2019 for US$3,25 sampled on 16-December-2022, three years after purchase at my house here in Washington, a few blocks away.
