Our 30th Anniversary Celebration Ale!
A tribute to Mount Hood, the very first hop variety we used back in 1993 and a pumped up, double hopped version of our first beer – Jeffrey Hudson Bitter.
First brewed on September 13 1993, JHB has become a cask beer legend, so what better way to celebrate its 30th birthday than by brewing a special 5.5% ABV cask aged version.
And high time that Sir Jeffery Hudson himself was elevated from Lord Minimus to Lord Maximus!
Mount Hood’s mild herbal and floral notes, lemon citrus fruit and light honey sweetness lead on to a refreshingly bitter finish in this very special Celebration Ale.

Cask at Standing Order, Derby. Pours a slightly hazy golden amber with a small off-white head and good lacing. Oranges are the mainstay of the aroma, alongside some malts and citrus. In the mouth it is quite bitter with traditional hops, ginger and traces of alcoholic strength and wood casks, Later on there are hints of tangerine and herbs leading to a boozy finish. This is what an IPA should taste like.

Cask at cloisters. Pours golden amber, nose is toffee, citrus, bit of funk, taste is juicy fruit, sweet, toffee, nutty.

Gravicask, half pint, shared with Finn at St Albans Beer & Cider Festival 2023. Bright amber body, fragile lacing from a disappearing white head. Malt-fruity nose, scent of cereal malts and lemony hops. Flavoured with grass, lemon, and herbal hops on a fundament of bread-like malts. Malt-fruity end, slightly bitter. Medium bodied. Pretty nice. (St Albans, 27.09.2023).

Hand-pulled half-pint at the Anvil Inn, Shifnal on 6th October 2023, beer festival in progress. This was my first beer and most likely the one I enjoyed the most during my tasting session of six beers and four ciders. Golden body, white crown and in really good condition. Decent hop nose (piney and fruity) on a bed of semi-sweet malty molasses that gave balance and depth to the brew.

Cask at St Albans beer & cider festival 2023, St Albans, Herts. A golden/amber coloured pour with a medium white head on top. Hoppy, citrus, orange marmalade, caramel taste and aroma. Decent gear from Oakham.

Cask at the St Albans beer festival 2023. A clear mid golden orange coloured pour with a lasting loose white head. Aroma is nice sticky chewy hop, pine sap, orange rind, toffee. Flavour is composed of semi sweet, rounded toffee sweetness, chewy pine sap, firm grassy piney hop bitterness. Palate is semi sweet, rounded, chewy, decent cask condition.

Cask at GBBF'23, day two, 02/08/23. Clear golden blonde with a white cap that thins to a swirl. Nose is lemon rind, herb, grass, citric tinged straw, light breads. Taste comprises soft malts, melon, tangerine, light breads, straw, toasted grains. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close with a mellow bitter kiss. Okay cask affair if a touch subdued by Oakham's standards.

GBBF Day 2. Cask. Almost clear gold beer, small pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, semi dry, reasonable fine carbonation. Smooth pale malts, sweet. Nice honey. Decent rich citric hops, rich marmalade jammy citrus. Light semi dry floral finish. Not bad at all.
