Earth's most fertile lands were molded by the fires of volcanoes.
This beer is about balance and evolution. We drew inspiration from Hawaiian kīpukas -- "islands" of lush, green areas that have been entirely surrounded by lava flows. These ecological wonders become natural laboratories, where the evolution of plant and animal species can dramatically speed up as the landscape responds to volcanic activity. A kīpuka offers a steadfastness, where the culture of an area is preserved no matter the external threat, now bolstered by a unique opportunity to grow and evolve for the benefit of the "island's" continued endurance. Post-barrel, this beer was pushed through hundreds of pounds of raw and toasted coconut for a buoyant viscosity and rich, silky roundness. Fresh pineapple pieces layer in a glimmer of tropical acidity, just enough to refresh the palate and bring the glowing rivulets of vibrant summer mango to life. Please allow this liquid to approach ambient temperature -- it will open up like a sunset.

Big and sweet, sugary dark malts, stewed fruits, cookie batter, soft roast, booze, maybe bourbon, faint earthy bitterness. Warming finish, lightly sticky. Enjoyable in moderation.

CBJ tasting, thanks to me for the Bottle. Opaque dark brown beer, small and short lived tan head. Smooth palate, mildly viscous, decent fine minerally carbonation. Soft dark malts, a decent creamy dark chocolate. Big boozy pineapple liqueur, ripe pineapple. A little coconut and ripe mango. Airy smooth finish with a little alcohol spice. I was slightly concerned about how a tropical fruits Impy would work. Well, I should not have worried, it's rather good. The chocolate and tropical fruits work well. Very well.

500 ml shared by Tom! Aroma is well, traces of pineapple with soft char. The coconut is forward and does show some pineapple throughout. Then the softest traces of barrel. Mild spice hints in the finish. Very unique!!

2022, batch 1, shared by tfontana on 9/20/25.
Pours like syrup with no head.
Pineapple! Vanilla bourbon notes and maybe some mango rind. Round sugars and easygoing, old bourbon notes. Surprised there's this much fruit in the nose. No alcohol.
Oh damn, that's nice! The rich, thick but properly barrel-attenuated/aged texture really does work here, with a delightful bourbon and char barrel character balancing the sweet, toasty coconut and mango. Not tons of barrel but close to enough. Lingering tannin/oak and light bourbon spice. That texture is out of this world. Done like few else can do it.

Bottle from Total Wine & More, W. Hollywood. Inky, opaque black, viscous, syrup-like. Aroma is strong pineapple, coconut, mango. Taste is strong pineapple and coconut, base stout, late mild bourbon--nice balance. Smooth, thick texture, full bodied, no alcohol, finish as taste. Different! Bought with trepidation but glad I did! Very nice. Barrel could have been more present but maybe good that it lets other aspects to shine.

500ml @ Matt's (thx for the bottle, man!) new place. Vintage 2022. Appearance: dark brown, pours like oil, no head. Aroma: very fruity, sweet, and bold. Taste: along the same lines, very sweet and fruity. Overall: very good for what it is.

Poured from 500mL bottle. Near black with very minimal beige head. Lots of pineapple on the aroma, even more on the taste, underlying chocolate, feint coconut and vanilla, mango disappears. An odd combo, but if anyone is to do it, Bottle Logic can.
