Valkyrie is a German Style Amber, a style known in Germany as an Altbier. It is brewed following the traditions of one of the oldest beer styles in Germany - alt literally means "old" in German. However our version is a little stronger, maltier and darker than most of its German counterparts. Brewed with dark munich and pilsner malts imported from Germany, Valkyrie has a smooth toasty and caramel taste with hints of chocolate and sweetness balanced by a hefty dose of German Nobel hops.

Bottle. California brewery #196. Pours hazy rich hazel, medium tan head that dissipates fairly quickly leaving decent lacing. Aroma is malty, roast, a bit nutty, dark breads and toffee. Flavor is medium sweet, very light bitter, quite malty and pleasant. I must be in a malty mood today, cause this hits the spot. Medium body, minimal acidity.

Sample at Tonyβs Darts Away. Brownish-amber color with a thin light beige head that recedes quickly to a wispy film. Spotty lacing. Roasted malt, hops and fruit in the nose. Medium body with flavors of roast malt, caramel and earthy hops. The finish is sweet with a malty aftertaste. Above average overall.

On tap. Pours with a somewhat murky, deep bronze-brown body with a medium sized tan head. Aromas are sweet and toasty, some melanoidins, munich malt, raisins, maple, grainy, clean. Flavors are a bit too bitter for my taste (balance wise), melanoidins, toasted malt, earthy, and leathery. Toasted corn, bitter, grainy. Bitter balance, not too sweet, dry finish. Medium bodied with slightly bright carbonation.
