New APA by Brussels Beer Project, draught at MEUG ; apparently the outcome of a series of prototypes that were tested at beer festivals (but which I seem to have missed). Thickly moussy, rather coarse, off-white, tightly lacing head over a hazy copper-hued amber beer. Aroma of orange peel, dried camomile, peach, pineapple, mango, biscuit, lychees. Soft, clean fruitiness in the onset, sweet mango and lychee aspects, peach and apple notes as well, soft carbo, supple and rounded mouthfeel. Biscuity malt sweetishness supports a very, very softly bittering hoppy finish – at 35 IBU, it is clear that this ale is all about hop aroma and not about hop bitterness, as a juicy mango-, lychee- and mandarin-like hop fruitiness brightly colours the finish; the grapefruit is obvious, but remains of a hoppy character rather than actual fruit. By all means, though, this is a pleasantly aromatic, literally 'grapefruited' APA, very accessible and juicy, but I am not entirely convinced the average Belgian consumer will already follow this – after all, he only just got used to traditionally bitter IPAs…

Thanks! Sampled draft @ MEUG 2018. Low hazy orange, golden, creamy white head. Dull weak sugary grapefruit peel, oily, perfume. Dull oily, soapy grapefruit, sugar, peel, almost bit watery, dull grainy, very unexciting & oddly similar to EXP0044 & not much better than EXP0024.

Bouteille 33cl, BB 01/2019.

F: big, off-white, irregular, average retention. C: gold to amber, hazy. A: grapefruits, tangerine, mango, orange, pineapple, mellow tropical fruits. T: malty, tangerine, orange, bit tropical fruits, aroma is better fresh fruity than the taste but still good enjoyable beer, light to medium body, medium to high carbonation, 33cl bottle from the brewery.
